Police Constable And Two Young Men Save A Ford Ecosport Driver From Drowning [Video]

The poor infrastructure in India has caused many incidents where people have lost their lives. Recently, in another incident, a Ford Ecosport driver was about to drown along with his SUV in Madurai. Thankfully, he was saved by a brave police constable and two young individuals who arrived on time and rescued him from his SUV. The video of this Ford Ecosport driver entering a flooded subway and then being saved has now gone viral on the internet.
The video showing how these brave men saved the life of the Ford Ecosport driver has been shared on X, courtesy of Sundar Subbiah. It starts with a white-colored Ford Ecosport mid-size SUV floating in water. At the beginning, we can note the SUV’s front portion was half-submerged in the water.
However, as the water level in the subway was high, the car started drifting towards the deeper end. At this point, we can note that three men, including a police constable, started swimming towards the Ecosport. They then managed to pull out the driver of this SUV and saved his life.
This particular incident took place at a flooded subway in Ponnagaram, Madurai, on October 12th following a heavy downpour. A police patrol vehicle was stationed at the Railway Girder Bridge near the subway to prevent vehicles from entering.
It was done to stop people and vehicles from entering the flooded subway. Authorities noted that this particular area was known to be flooded with water around 10 feet deep due to continuous rainfall. Unfortunately, despite the police patrol vehicle being there, this Ford Ecosport SUV driver, named Gopi, entered the subway.
At first, he did not understand the danger of the situation. However, as the vehicle started floating and drifting in the water, the driver began panicking. Thankfully, taking note of the situation, Thangamuthu, a police constable, saw this SUV submerging in water.
In order to save Gopi, Thangamuthu, along with two young men, R. Chandrasekar, aged 36, and G. Karthikeyan, aged 26, started swimming towards the SUV. They then began the tedious process of rescuing Gopi from the SUV. Later in the video, it can be noted that the SUV was completely submerged in the 10-feet deep water.
Following the rescue mission, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), S. Davidson Devasirvatham, took note of the bravery shown by these men. For this reason, Constable Thangamuthu and the two civilians were presented with rewards by the ADGP.
What’s even more shocking about this incident is that the police patrol vehicle present at the subway also submerged in the water. According to reports, the vehicle was parked at the edge of the slope of the flooded subway. Firemen saved four people from drowning.
Unfortunately, the driver responsible did not apply the handbrake properly on this patrol vehicle. As a result, the vehicle started rolling into the water and could not be stopped.
Following the rescue mission, Commissioner of Police G. Loganathan and Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Garad Karun Uddavrao also visited the site. They reached the spot to oversee the situation and assess the extent of the flooding.
