DSP's Wife Celebrates Birthday While Sitting On Moving Mahindra XUV700 Police Car's Bonnet: Viral Video

A video showing the blatant misuse of power is now going viral among netizens. It reportedly shows the wife of a high-ranking police officer from Chhattisgarh celebrating her birthday sitting on the hood of the official cop car- a Mahindra XUV 700 finished in White with a Blue beacon on its roof. She allegedly filmed the act and made it into a reel that was later shared on Instagram.
The video starts by showing the lady, later identified as Farheen Khan, sitting on the bonnet of the SUV. She is the wife of Janjgir-Champa district DSP Taslim Arif. A birthday cake and a bunch of flowers can be seen on the hood of the XUV. It is her 33rd birthday. She first writes '32' on the front windscreen with a bottle of foam spray, and signals a man who is seated inside, to turn on the wipers.
The person in the driving seat turns them on and the '32' is wiped off completely. Just when the blades are back in their 'idle' positions, Farheen writes 33 on the windshield and 'celebrates' her birthday. She is seen dressed up for the occasion and is even wearing a sash celebrating her big day. A few other women can be seen standing around, celebrating with her.
Later in the video, we see the SUV being driven slowly- at crawling speeds- by a girl and with the DSP's wife still seated on the hood. The rest of her gang can be seen standing at the doors, sitting in the boot and even popping their heads out of the sunroof. The vehicle still has the beacon on its roof.
Thankfully, this act did not take place on the public road. It seems to have been performed in a controlled environment- likely in the premises of a private stay or resort. The bigger problem here is the misuse of the 'government resource'.
Government employees shouldn't ideally use their official vehicles- be it a car, SUV or a two-wheeler- for personal commutes. These are strictly meant for work-related commutes. Abuse of vehicles with Blue beacons are never to be tolerated. Here, the DSP's car is being used by his wife to celebrate her birthday- a use case that is clearly personal. It has thus raised serious questions about administrative discipline and protocols.
Adding more seriousness to the matter, the XUV here was being driven in an 'unsafe' way, with its door, boot and sunroof open. While we would agree that it was doing extremely low speeds and was in a controlled environment, it is still a violation of the law. The official vehicle being involved in this scenario holds the DSP accountable. Disciplinary actions could be initiated against the cop, identified as Taslim Arif, for letting this happen.
This video has caused massive outrage among netizens. People have been discussing the various sides of it on different social media platforms. It is clear from the comments that such misuse of power and governmental property isn't too uncommon or unheard of in India.
There is a heightened call for accountability even though no action against the cop has been reported at the time of writing this article. Netizens also demand an inquiry into the incident at the earliest.
The video seems to be a clear attempt at showing off the husband's job and the power it carries. Instead of getting enraged by the same, some netizens found the act 'cringe'! Another user commented ' Power dimag kharab kardi hai' which translates to ' Power has messed up her mind'. Interestingly, this opinion/line of thought has been backed by several others as well.
