Modification of any sort to a vehicle is considered illegal in India. However, people still continue to do this. While most owners ensure that they don’t show off or get into trouble with the cops, there are a few who love creating a nuisance on the road. Here we have one such incident from Bengaluru, where a modified Volkswagen Polo with an aftermarket exhaust created inconvenience for the locals. The car was later seized by the cops. Here's a video of the said car, shared by a X handle.

The incident happened earlier this week on Church Street, Bengaluru. As per reports that have surfaced online, Arjun G. Shenoy, a resident of Shanmuga Layout, Hosapalya, came to Church Street in his modified Volkswagen Polo.

The Polo was modified, and from the images available online, it looks like the windows on this hatchback were tinted as well. Arjun started driving the car very slowly through the street.

The car was equipped with an aftermarket exhaust, and the owner decided to grab attention using it. He pushed the accelerator hard on his modified Polo. As the engine was being revved hard, there was a loud noise from the aftermarket exhaust. Shenoy was doing this intentionally to grab attention. It is unclear whether he wanted those reactions for a social media video or not.

The exhaust was extremely loud and occasionally emitted fire as well. It was probably a free-flow exhaust, and in such exhausts, unburned fuel often burns within the exhaust system, resulting in visible flames. This is not a good practice, as it creates inconvenience and can also affect the health of the car.

The excessive noise created a disturbance for many people on the street. It not only annoyed pedestrians but also disturbed people sitting in nearby restaurants and shops. Many of them actually came out to check what was happening. When one of the locals raised his voice against this nuisance, Arjun drove the car away.

Volkswagen Polo Seized Bengaluru Police

Although he left the scene, locals had taken pictures and videos of the car. They shared the images online, and as usual, the Bengaluru traffic police were also tagged. The department came across the post and decided to take action against the offender. His car number was clearly visible in the post, and the officers used that to trace the location and owner of the vehicle.

One of the officers said,

We have seized the car. We will write to officials from the Regional Transport Office (RTO), asking them to inspect the vehicle and submit a report. Shenoy will have to approach the court to get his car released. We will submit the chargesheet against him soon.

The Cubbon Park traffic police registered a case on their own. The owner was traced, and action was taken. He was arrested and later released on station bail. Shenoy was booked under the Indian Motor Vehicle Act and sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 281 (exhibition of false light, mark, or buoy).

Shenoy confessed that he had bought the aftermarket exhaust online and installed it with the help of a local mechanic. Recently, we have seen cops taking action against shops that sell such aftermarket modification accessories for cars.
