Many automotive enthusiasts believe that the term SUV has been diluted a lot in recent years. Earlier, when someone thought of buying an SUV, they thought of rigid ladder-on-frame chassis vehicles with off-roading capabilities. It was believed that SUVs were capable of doing stuff that normal cars would not be able to do, like overcoming difficult obstacles and even climbing stairs. Today, we thought we should bring to you a few legendary SUVs that were seen climbing stairs like they were eating a piece of cake.

Force Gurkha – Crosses a river and then climbs stairs

The first video on this list is of an older-generation Force Gurkha. This highly underrated SUV was seen crossing a pond with around half a meter of water depth. After this incredible task, it was seen climbing up a flight of stairs like it was a walk in the park. This SUV did not break a sweat while overcoming these obstacles. The Force Gurkha comes equipped with a 2.6-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine that produces a maximum power of 85 Bhp and peak torque of 230 Nm. It also comes equipped with a low-range transfer case that enhances its off-roading capabilities.

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX – Climbs up a few steps

Next up is an old video of a now-rare Mitsubishi Pajero SFX 4X4. In this short clip, a man can be seen guiding his friend driving a Pajero over a staircase. We can note that the Pajero easily climbs the stairs while the driver is talking on the phone. Unfortunately, the driver backs out for some reason. This generation of the Pajero SFX came powered by a 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine, which was capable of making 118 Bhp and 292 Nm of torque.

Mahindra Thar three-door

The old-generation Thar was already a very capable off-road vehicle. Due to this, the new-generation Thar inherited its DNA and is also very capable of off-roading. In this short video, we can note a new-generation Mahindra Thar 4X4 going up a flight of stairs very easily. The new-generation Thar is offered with two engine options: a 2.2-litre diesel motor and a 2.0-litre petrol engine as well.

Mahindra MM540

As mentioned above, the Thar that we see today has received its DNA from the previous-generation Thar and its predecessor, the MM540. In this short video, we can note an MM540 being driven up a flight of stairs with ease. What’s even more impressive is that there were a number of people sitting inside this SUV, and despite this, it managed to climb up like it was not a big deal.

Toyota Fortuner

The Toyota Fortuner is one of the most popular and capable off-road SUVs in India. It is also very popular in other countries as well. Here is a video of a Toyota Fortuner from Pakistan climbing up a mountain with stairs. We can note that this SUV was climbing these stairs very easily. There were also a few turns on the stairs, which it overcame with ease.

Currently, the Fortuner 4X4 only comes with the 2.8-litre diesel engine option. This motor is capable of producing 201 Bhp of power and 500 Nm of torque. The Fortuner currently starts in India at Rs 33.43 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 58.78 lakh.
