Vehicle theft is a major issue not just in India but in many countries. We have come across several videos where thieves are seen stealing cars and bikes in broad daylight. It is one of the major reasons why many people have started installing CCTV cameras and other security measures in their vehicles and parking lots. However, there are times when we come across videos of failed theft attempts, and some of them are actually funny.

Watch on YouTube

Here, we have one such video of a thief attempting to steal a bike without realizing that the owner is recording him. The video has been shared by Total Kalesh on Reddit. It was recorded and shared by a user from somewhere in North India (probably Delhi).

In the video, we see a person sitting next to a bike parked outside a house in a residential area. The bike is parked under a streetlight, and the person is fiddling with the wires of the motorcycle. Initially, it looked like he was trying to fix something on the bike. However, seconds after the video started, it became clear that the person was a thief. He was trying hard to pull the wires out and start the bike. He disconnected a couple of wires and managed to turn the bike on. He was attempting to steal a TVS Apache motorcycle.

He was not alone—while he was trying to get the bike's ignition on, another guy was sitting at a distance, ensuring that no one was watching them. The person recording the video was actually inside his home, probably on the first floor. The camera person coughed a couple of times, but the thieves couldn’t figure out where the sound was coming from. Assuming no one was watching, they continued their work.

The thief successfully managed to get the ignition on, and just as he did, the camera person started sarcastically appreciating him. The thief looked around and then tried to break the handle lock of the motorcycle. When he realized that someone was watching him, he became conscious and started hurrying things up. However, he was still unsure where the voice was coming from.

Thinking that people were coming after him, he frantically searched for the source of the voice. When he finally spotted the person on the first floor with a camera, he realized that it wasn’t worth the effort anymore since his actions had already been recorded. Since he could easily be recognized and caught, even if he stole the bike, he decided to flee.

The thief and his accomplice were forced to run away from the spot. The thief was so determined to steal the bike that he was willing to take the risk until the last moment. However, once he saw that his face was captured on camera, he abandoned the attempt.

We hope the owner of the Apache bike was informed about the theft attempt and that he shared the video with the police to identify the culprit. Last year, we came across a video where a thief trying to steal a Bajaj Pulsar was thrashed by the owner in Punjab. In another incident, a bike owner even opened fire at thieves attempting to steal his motorcycle.
