Woman On Scooter Barely Escapes Getting Crushed After Dumper Truck Loses Brakes [video]

Road accidents have lately been on the rise in many parts of India. Crashes and mishaps have claimed the lives of many. Some incidents turn out to be close calls for those involved, and more traumatising than words can ever explain. One such crash happened in Kerala's Calicut recently. A woman who was riding a scooter uphill barely escaped getting crushed by a dumper truck after it lost control and ran into her. A nearby surveillance camera captured the entire incident, and the footage has now surfaced online.

This unfortunate incident happened in the Perumanna town in Calicut (Kozhikode), Kerala. A video shared on Instagram shows a woman riding her scooter- likely a Honda Activa- finished in Red, uphill, on an incline. A mini dumper truck is seen driving in front of her.

You see the truck stop soon. This appears to confuse the woman, who stops her scooter behind the truck, possibly trying to figure out why it has stopped all of a sudden. There is ample (and safe) distance between the truck and the scooter. It should be noted that the two are still in the middle of the incline.

In the next few moments, we see the truck rolling back. It starts slow. Alarmed, the woman tries to reverse her scooter using her feet. Soon, the truck's speed shoots up, in the blink of an eye. The woman senses danger, realises that she can't save the scooter, and jumps off and rolls over, just when the truck hits her scooter and crushes it down.

At the time of impact, the truck carried so much momentum that the scooter getting crushed under its wheels couldn't bring it to a halt. It dragged the two-wheeler along, and crashed into a structure nearby.

The woman had fallen to her right side and managed to escape getting crushed by the truck. She seems to have taken only minor scratches and soon manages to gather herself up and move to a safe spot. The video even shows the truck's co-driver getting out and trying to check on the lady. Those who were around, soon rushed to help the woman. Likely scared of public outrage, the truck guys are seen pulling themselves back.

The video is chilling and highlights how narrowly the woman escaped a deadly crash using her quick reflexes. The cause of this incident seems to be the faulty brakes of the truck. It apparently lost its brakes and went out of control on the ascent. The driver was likely unaware of the lady being right behind his truck. The scooter could have even been in his blind spot.

To be praised here, is the lady's sharp reflexes and high situational awareness. The way she jumped off the scooter and rolled over was truly incredible. The only scenario that could fail her escape plan was a vehicle approaching at high speeds through her right, which luckily did not happen. Hat tip to her timely action, what could have been a disaster ended up being limited to just a few minor scratches and bruises.

We don't know what happened afterwards- if the woman was given immediate medical attention or what the clinical findings were. As for the scooter, visuals suggest it has been crushed completely. Going by the footage alone, it could have been totalled, and could hardly remain rideable afterwards!

The Instagram video has been amassing massive viewership. People can be seen praising the lady's quick thinking and thanking God for her making it out alive.
