Did Rohit Sharma Give His Lamborghini Urus To A Fan? We Explain

In the past few days, you'd have come across many major news portals talking about Rohit Sharma giving off his Lamborghini Urus SUV to a fan. Since the Urus is an expensive SUV, many doubted if the news was true. Let's now do a quick fact check and find out what the truth behind the news is.
Yes, Rohit Sharma gave his Blue Lamborghini Urus to a fan. But there are more layers to this than you'd imagine. The famous Indian cricketer did not give his prized possession to any random fan out there. It was instead gifted to the lucky winner of the contest held by Dream 11, a popular fantasy cricket platform. The 'giveaway' commenced in April this year, when Chetan Borkar, the Dream 11 winner, received keys to the cricketer's celebrated SUV. We had talked more about this in our previous story.
Dream 11 previously announced an exciting contest for the IPL 2025 season. An advertisement was soon released, starring Rohit Sharma. In it, the cricketer was seen in a dramatic setting. He is seen making an announcement which many would tend to disbelieve- that he would give his Blue Lamborghini Urus as a price for the winner. To spice up the scene further, the cricketer was 'seen in tears'.
The winners of the contest would be put in a lucky draw. The winner of this will drive home the cricketer's Urus. So, how do you make it to the lucky draw? Well, Dream 11 allows users to create virtual teams with real-life players. They earn points based on their performance in actual matches. The players compete with each other, basis these scores.
Soon, a second video surfaced. It showed a cheerful Rohit Sharma getting into an autorickshaw and telling the driver, “Chalo, meter se chalo,” (go by the meter fare). A fan is seen getting into the Urus and driving off. This video confirmed that the lucky winner would get to own the cricketer's own Urus and not just any Lamborghini.
We get to see Chetan Borkar receiving the Urus in a separate photo shared on Instagram. He is seen clicking pictures with the super SUV, and is quite excited by the development.
So, why are news portals reporting it now? Well, since IPL is always a hot topic, and something like Rohit Sharma giving his Lamborghini Urus as a gift to a fan is huge, there will always be readers for it. The first publication which took the story live without mentioning dates or timelines should have found readers with it. This should have made other publications carry it as well. Long story short, that's how digital publishing works and how trends are made...
The Urus is Lamborghini's first SUV offering (disregarding the original LM002) and the one here, is a pre-facelift unit. The Urus was first launched in 2017. Sharma's Urus, originally bought in March 2022, had the number 'MH 01 EB 264'. It denoted his highest ODI score.
In August last year, the Urus got a major overhaul. Today, the ex-showroom prices of a brand-new Urus start at Rs 4.18 Crores. The SUV now features a more refined design, improved cabin experience and beefier powertrain.
The 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine is now hybrid and comes mated to a 25.9 kWh battery pack and an electric motor. This setup produces 657 hp and 850 Nm. It comes mated to an 8-speed transmission. The new Urus can do the 0-100 kph sprint in 3.3 seconds and the top speed is 300 kph.
In the Indian market, the Urus faces competition from the likes of Audi RSQ8, Aston Martin DBX 707, Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, Ferrari Purosangue, and Maserati Levante.
