Woman On Honda Navi Blocks Ambulance Carrying Patient: Video Goes Viral

In India, traffic jams are a common occurrence in many cities. We have seen several videos where people get frustrated on the road because of these long traffic jams. Even emergency vehicles often get stuck in such jams. Emergency vehicles like ambulances have priority on the road, and if you spot one, always slow down and give way. However, not everyone does that.
Here, we have a video from Kerala where a woman rider on a Honda Navi scooter is seen blocking the way of an ambulance carrying a patient. The video has been shared by Mathrubhumi News on their YouTube channel. It was recorded by a bystander of the patient who was in the ambulance when this happened. The incident took place in Kerala’s Kochi region. The ambulance was carrying a patient from a hospital in Aluva to a specialist hospital for emergency surgery.
During their journey from the hospital, the ambulance driver spotted a woman rider on a Honda Navi scooter in front of them. The ambulance was being driven at high speed with the siren turned on. There was a decent amount of traffic on the road, and most vehicles were giving way. However, the woman on the scooter refused to give way and continued riding in front of the ambulance.
The ambulance driver pressed the horn and tried his best to squeeze through narrow gaps, but the woman kept ignoring the siren. The registration number of the scooter is clearly visible in the video. The report mentions that the ambulance was carrying a patient who needed surgery after he lost his palm in an accident at a factory during work. The patient needed urgent surgery, and that is when the woman behaved in such an irresponsible manner.
In the video, the ambulance driver can be heard saying that if he had driven the vehicle faster, he would have crashed into the woman, and the locals would have blamed him for reckless driving. The woman was being irresponsible in this case, and that fact would not have been discussed otherwise.
The ambulance driver had the video as proof and directly reported the incident to the local police after reaching the hospital. The authorities reviewed the video evidence and contacted the woman. The officers have asked her to come to the police station on Monday.
In the video, it is clearly visible that the woman was completely ignoring the horn and siren of the ambulance. Despite having space on both sides, she did not give way to the ambulance.
This is not the first time we have seen an incident like this happen in India or Kerala. A few months ago, a doctor from Kerala was actually arrested for blocking the way of an ambulance. Following the complaint, Kadirur police booked Dr. Rahul Raj under sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act, including Section 285 (causing danger or obstruction in public spaces) and Section 194E (failing to yield to emergency vehicles). The Motor Vehicle Department also imposed a fine of ₹5,000 on the doctor. He was arrested on Friday night but was later released on bail.
We expect similar action to be taken against the woman rider in this incident as well. Whenever you hear the siren of an ambulance, ensure that you give way to the vehicle without creating an obstruction.
