Skoda will be officially launching their entry level SUV Kylaq in the market next month. The final round of testing for the Kylaq is currently going on and we have seen several images of production ready versions of the Kylaq recently. While most of the videos and images that we have seen in the past are of the top-end variants. We now have a new video that shows how the base variant of Kylaq is going to look like.

The video has been shared by Marathi car news on their Instagram page. In this video, we see a fully camouflaged Skoda Kylaq SUV parked under a bridge somewhere in Maharashtra. The person recording the video shows the front of the SUV, side, rear and interior. At the front, it looks like the base variant of the Kylaq gets halogen headlamps with parking lamps and turn indicators. We feel only the higher variants might be getting the LED DRLs.

Coming to the side, we see 16 inch steel rims. The wheels get black coloured wheel caps on the test mule. The production version might be getting a silver coloured wheel cap.

While the lower variants get 16 inch rims, the top-end versions will come with 17 inch rims and alloy wheels. The front gets disc brakes while the rear gets drum units. At the rear, we see the rear windscreen with no wiper and defogger. The tail lamps with LED elements remain the same.

Then video gives us a glimpse of the cabin of the Kylaq base variant. It gets a very basic dashbaord setup with hard plastic everywhere. We do not see multi-function buttons on the steering wheel. Skoda is also not offering a stock infotainment system with the base varint. As expected, the base variant will be offered with a manual gearbox option only. We do see the 6-speed manual gearbox in the video.

Skoda Kylaq is based on MQB AO IN platform. This is the same as used on Skoda Slavia, Kushaq, Volkswagen Virtus and Taigun. The Kushaq is expected to get priced aggressively unlike other products from the Czech car maker. The brand had mentioned that we can expect heavy localisation in the Kushaq and that should ideally reflect in the pricing too.

The sub-4 meter SUV segment is extremely competitive and Skoda will have to play the price game wisely to ensure people notice the Kylaq. It will rival with the likes of Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Mahindra 3XO, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger in the segment.

Skoda will be offering the Kylaq with only one engine option. It is going to be powered by a 1.0 litre, three.-cylinder TSI petrol engine that generates 115 Ps an 178 Nm of peak torque. This engine would be offered with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission option.

The global debut of the Skoda Kylaq is set to happen on November 6 and the deliveries are expected to start early 2025. Volkswagen who were initially reluctant to enter the sub-4 meter segment are also planning to come with a sub-4 meter SUV in 2026.
