Man's Driving License Impounded After He Sells Car To Spinny: Here's What Happened

India's used car market has had tremendous growth in the past few years. We have seen the rise of many pre-owned car business platforms which claim to make the process transparent and hassle-free for the users. Spinny is one among them and is in fact, a major in the space. Now, a serious allegation has surfaced against the Gurugram-based company, wherein a person who sold his car to the company allegedly got his driving license impounded!
The bitter experience was shared on Linkedin by Rahil Mukesh, a senior employee at Nestle. In the post, he explains all key details of the unfortunate incident. Rahil says that his experience with Spinny 'has been far from the seamless, hassle-free process they advertise.'
He sold his car to the company on May 4, 2024. During the process, he says he had carefully reviewed and signed their standard agreement. He was given most of the agreed amount at the time of the sale- except for Rs 5,000.
Rahil was contacted by a Spinny agent to complete the RTO formalities in Ghaziabad. Soon an NOC (No Objection Certificate) was issued from the Bijnor RTO, for the transfer of ownership. Post this, the remaining amount (Rs 5,000) was also paid to him. Things seemed fine for now!
Days went by and Rahil kept on doing follow-ups with the agent, for the proof of RC transfer. He was, however, given no clear answer. He says that the VAAHAN portal continued to show the car to be registered in his name. He soon took it to the notice of Spinny.
The executives reassured him that it was due to delays at the Bijnor RTO, and the same was quite common. As per the signed agreement, Spinny would have to take responsibility for any issues with the vehicle post the transfer. The executives, seem to have reconfirmed the same.
Things took a wild turn after this. In December 2024, Rahil started receiving traffic challans! Between December 2024 and April 2025, he allegedly received 10 challans from Delhi, UP, and Haryana. The offences ranged from speeding & parking violations to driving without insurance & violating pollution norms! Eight of these were tagged to his driving license as the RC transfer was still pending. He even received calls from the traffic police whenever the car was parked in no-parking zones. Rahil had no clue who was driving the car and was in fact, left helpless!
Tired, he contacted Spinny's customer care for a solution. The LinkedIn post says that Spinny Care was of little help in getting it sorted. He was told that the fines on the car had crossed Rs 50,000! They further said that the dues would be 'cleared' once the vehicle is scrapped in June this year. The customer care, however, refused to deliver this in writing...
Rahil says that he has sent over eight emails since February, seeking a solution for this but none of them was acknowledged. Soon, challans started piling up, and were forwarded to court! Disappointed with the support, he even marked the Spinny founders Ramanshu Mahaur, Niraj Singh, and Mohit Gupta in these mails. The response, however, was no different.
Rahil's driver's license was soon digitally impounded, as the challans were never paid! He sent a legal notice to the company on May 15, 2025 and says even this 'hasn't woken them up'.
Rahil Mukesh is determined to find a fix to this issue and says he'll pursue the legal recourse for the same. He advises everyone dealing with Spinny to be cautious of the brand. He has further tagged the official handles of Nitin Gadkari, Ministry Of Consumer Affairs, Department of Consumer Affairs and even those of Spinny's investors in his post.
It remains to be seen how Spinny would address this client's grievance. Keeping its eyes shut any longer could land the used car giant in deep trouble, and unsettle its credibility and trust among buyers.
According to the most recent update, Spinny has got the customer's grievance resolved. The official communication from the brand says the following steps to have been completed:
