Tata Curvv.EV Owner Uses V2L To Rescue Nexon EV Stranded on Highway With No Charge

While there is a steady rise in the number of electric vehicle sales in India, there are a few challenges that people still face even today. Range anxiety is one of these issues, and it often becomes a problem when you are on long drives. People are still getting used to driving EVs, and there have been instances where EV owners have found themselves in trouble after running out of charge. They often call for RSA (Roadside Assistance) and help from service centers in such situations.
In one such instance, a Nexon EV Max owner was rescued by one of our followers who owns a Tata Curvv.ev. He actually rescued the Nexon.ev using V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) after it was stranded on a highway due to running out of charge.
The video was shared by Rakesh Kaswan, who is one of our followers. He shared the video on WhatsApp. The exact location where this happened is not known, but it is very evident that the Tata Nexon EV Max (pre-facelift version) is parked on the roadside. It looks like the Nexon.ev ran out of juice near a toll booth.
Rakesh Kaswan was probably passing through the same route when he spotted the Nexon.ev and decided to help. He spoke to the Nexon EV owner and understood the issue. The Curvv.ev that Rakesh is driving comes with the V2L feature. This is actually a very useful feature that can help you in situations like this.
V2L, or Vehicle-to-Load, is a feature available with most modern electric cars. This feature allows the vehicle’s battery to power external devices. If you have the correct adapter, you can power several electronic devices like televisions, induction cooktops, coffee machines, and so on.
In this case, the Curvv.ev owner had the adapter with him, and he used his electric vehicle as a power bank to charge the Nexon.ev. He plugged in the adapter and asked the Nexon EV owner to connect one end of his charger to the adapter and the other end to the charging port of his vehicle.
The owner mentioned that his Curvv.ev was acting as RSA for the Nexon.ev owner that day. The charging station was actually about 5–6 km away from the point where the Nexon.ev ran out of charge. The Curvv.ev owner mentioned that he’d charge the Nexon.ev for some time so that it had enough power to drive to the next charging station.
This video is a good example of how helpful the V2L feature can be. The same owner actually used this feature on his EV to connect an induction cooktop and cook Maggi noodles during his recent road trip.
The Curvv.ev is currently the flagship EV from Tata Motors. It is available in two variants: a 45 kWh and a 55 kWh battery pack. It looks like the EV seen in the video is the larger battery version.
The 45 kWh battery pack variant has a claimed driving range of 502 km on a single charge, while the 55 kWh variant has a claimed range of 585 km. The 45 kWh version generates 148 Bhp and 215 Nm of peak torque, while the larger battery variant generates 165 Bhp and 215 Nm of peak torque.
