With gold prices having had no fall, India seems to have bought a lot of the precious metal during the Akshaya Tritiya this year. Now, a video from the auspicious day is garnering views. It shows a Swiggy Instamart partner doing ' high security' Gold deliveries on a motorcycle- with a mini locker and guard, in the classic fashion.

The unusual sight, first shared by paparazzi account Viral Bhayani on Instagram, shows the delivery executive in his orange uniform riding a motorbike. Behind him, a uniformed guard sits clutching a locked metal case, which bears an Instamart sticker. He has a 'lath' in hand, adding an air of seriousness to the scene as if the moustache wasn't enough!

The post's caption read 'EXCLUSIVE: Caught on camera! That's not just any Instamart delivery - it's GOLD being transported for Akshaya Tritiya!'

This unexpected scene quickly sparked curiosity and laughter online. Now, we can't disagree on the fact that the video is both adorable and hilarious. The internet, however, seems to have mixed thoughts on the actual effectiveness of the system. Many are sceptical about keeping things so conspicuous with high-value deliveries like Gold! Honestly, they can't be blamed either!

It remains a possibility that this specific scene could have been staged for PR, and the actual Gold deliveries could have commenced in a more discrete and safer fashion. The company hasn't however, commented on such possibilities.

One of the comments asked why the company was using motorcycles for Gold delivery, and not a safer, stronger option like a four-wheeler or car. The answer to this, we think, is the convenience, speed and ease of delivery that two-wheelers promise.

In busy urbanscapes, motorcycles and scooters often reach destinations quicker than larger vehicles. This is one of the reasons why last-mile delivery services rely on these. The cost is another reason. Using four-wheelers would make the expenses spike and the platform will eventually be forced to charge higher operating costs or service fee.

The Swiggy Instamart team soon joined the online conversation with a playful twist. Sharing the video on their Instagram Stories, the company joked, “Real gold delivery karne ke liye real security chahiye bro.”- roughly translating to 'Bro, you need real security to deliver real Gold'. They continued the fun in the comment section of another viral post, writing, “Delivering sona in every kona kona,” ( Delivering Gold to every nook and corner) which added even more buzz to the viral moment.

Swiggy Instamart recently announced a partnership with Kalyan Jewellers to deliver Gold and Silver coins directly to customers’ homes. This new feature allows users to order gold coins ranging from 0.5 to 1 gram, and silver coins between 5 to 20 grams, right from the app. The service is currently active in more than 100 cities across India.

With more customers embracing the convenience of quick commerce for festive and traditional purchases, this partnership is both timely and relevant. Our goal is to ensure that customers can access trusted, certified products like gold and silver coins with the same ease as they would groceries or other household purchases,” said Amitesh Jha, CEO of Instamart.

The timing of this launch was no coincidence. It was strategically introduced ahead of Akshaya Tritiya, a festival that holds deep cultural significance. In Indian tradition, buying gold on Akshaya Tritiya is believed to bring lasting prosperity. The word “Akshaya” itself means “never diminishing,” symbolizing good fortune and wealth that grows over time.

With this collaboration, Swiggy has managed to combine tradition with modern convenience. By bringing gold and silver to customers’ doorsteps, the company is not just delivering goods—but a memorable experience.
