Tata Altroz Saves Passengers After Massive Truck Crash: Owner Restores It To Brand New Condition

Safety and crashworthiness are probably the biggest selling points of most Tata cars and SUVs. It has been years since we started associating this Indian manufacturer with safety. The Altroz is a hatchback that is loved for its Global NCAP ratings more than anything else. There have been numerous incidents in the past where Altroz crashes have saved lives, boosting people’s confidence in the brand and its products. Recently a family travelling in an Altroz met with an accident in Maharashtra and all of them were saved by the vehicle’s high safety standards. The owner later restored the wrecked car to brand-new condition.
A video shared on Instagram starts by showing the crash. It happened somewhere in the Bhimashankar Ghat, in Maharashtra. The Altroz had a family of five in it. They were reportedly on their way back from the Bhimashankar Shiva temple- which the place is famous for. The hatchback crashed with an Eicher truck and overturned due to the impact.
Due to the sturdy build quality and safety offered by the hatchback, all five of its occupants remained safe. The car, however, took significant damage. It lost its front bumper and the bonnet too was damaged. Since it overturned, the roof got deformed as well. The headlights and the windshield broke. It seems like the car had structural damage as well.
It was soon moved to the nearest Tata service centre- Shrinath Automotive in Chakan, Pune, on a recovery truck. The family, originally from Andhra Pradesh returned to their home town.
The truck, on the other hand, took only minor damage. Its right headlamp broke and there were several dents here and there. A part of its front bumper was also damaged in the crash.
Shrinath Automotive Services started repairing the damaged vehicle and there was a lot to be fixed. Most people would have thought of selling it off and buying a new car. For some reason, this owner wanted the same car to be brought back into a new car-like form. The video shows the folks at Shrinath Automotive getting the work done and bringing the car back to a new life. Towards the end of the reel, the owner receives the keys to his car from the service station guy.
The Tata Altroz made headlines right after its launch by securing a five-star safety rating in Global NCAP crash tests, setting a record for the highest safety score ever achieved by an Indian-manufactured car back then.
Although the Altroz continues to hold its prestigious five-star rating, it has now slipped lower in the rankings as newer, safer cars have entered the market. Additionally, it was evaluated under older Global NCAP protocols, which have since been updated with stricter testing standards.
The Global NCAP crash tests were conducted at a speed of 64 km/h, in which the the Altroz delivered an impressive performance. In adult occupant safety, it achieved a score of 16.13 out of 17. For child occupant safety, however, it scored 29 out of 49.
Despite this, the Altroz remains a sturdy and well-built vehicle, with its bodyshell integrity considered ‘stable’. The Global NCAP report highlighted that the car offers excellent protection for the head, neck, and knees of both the driver and co-passenger, ensuring a high level of safety in the event of a collision. However, protection for the chest area was rated as satisfactory, suggesting that there is room for improvement there.
