Tata Curvv Airbags Didn’t Deploy In A Crash [Video]

Generally, when we see a car that has been involved in a severe accident and the airbags have not been deployed, we assume that the airbags or other systems of the vehicle might be faulty, and it is an issue of huge concern. However, in this particular case, a Tata Curvv was seen with a completely destroyed right side, and its airbags were not deployed. But despite this, it’s a good thing. Now, you may be wondering how it could be a good thing. Well, here’s the explanation.
Recently, a video has been shared on Instagram by Aayush Singh Negi on their page. In this short video, we can note that a Tata Curvv, finished in Gold Essence color, was being shown with a completely destroyed right side. We can note that the entire front right door, rear right door, as well as the rear quarter panel, were badly damaged. Additionally, the right portion of the rear bumper is also destroyed.
Now, the person recording the video moves closer to the vehicle and shows the interior of this particular Curvv. He shows and explains that despite this extremely terrible damage on the right side, no airbags of this SUV, including the side airbags, have been deployed. He then states that to many, it may seem like a huge safety blunder; however, that is not the case.
The main reason why the airbags on this Tata Curvv did not deploy was that this vehicle was hit by another while it was stationary. The person recording the video stated that there was no one sitting inside the vehicle at the time of this incident, and as a result, the engine was turned off, and there was no weight on the seat to complete the airbag circuit.
For those who may not be aware, all of the seats in the vehicle have sensors that check if the seat has been occupied by a passenger or not. Due to this, the vehicle, in case of an accident, only deploys the airbags that are required to save the lives of the passengers sitting inside. Now, as in this case, the vehicle was not occupied by any passenger, the airbags did not deploy, which shows that the sensors were working as they were designed to work.
Additionally, the non-deployment of airbags is also good for another reason—saving insurance claim costs. As the airbags on this vehicle are intact, the insurance company will now not have to pay for the additional cost of airbags. It will also help in getting the vehicle quickly repaired. In cases of airbag deployment and replacement after an accident, it takes a lot of time as the entire interior has to be stripped down to replace old, blown-out airbags.
For anyone who may be wondering if the Tata Curvv is a safe vehicle or not, we have to highlight that the Tata Curvv is a five-star safety-rated vehicle. Back in October of last year, Bharat NCAP crash-tested the Tata Curvv coupe SUV and gave it a perfect five-star safety rating. The SUV managed to score an impressive 29.5 out of 32 points in the adult occupant protection tests.
Meanwhile, in the child occupant protection tests, it scored 43.66 points out of 49. The EV iteration of the Tata Curvv—the Curvv.ev—scored an even better 30.81 points out of 32 in adult occupant protection tests and 44.83 out of 49 points in the child occupant protection tests.
The Tata Curvv is offered with a ton of safety features: six airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors and camera, seat belt reminder system, speed alert system, and all-wheel disc brakes. It also gets a 360-degree camera and ADAS Level 2. The ADAS suite of this SUV includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind spot detection, lane change alert, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and rear cross-traffic alert.
