The Nexon.EV is known for its safety levels and has a five-star Bharat NCAP safety rating. In the past, we have come across several incidents of the electric SUV keeping its occupants safe even in serious crashes. The latest such case is from Kerala, where a Nexon.EV crashed into a line bus, after its effort to overtake a Toyota Hyryder failed miserably. A video of this, likely captured by a CCTV installed in the bus, has now surfaced.

The Video

This accident took place on a narrow road in Kerala’s Malappuram-Palakkad route, near Vengara. As the clip opens, we see the bus moving through the unmarked road. A few other vehicles can also be seen around.

Soon, the bus tries to overtake a slow-going Toyota Etios. As it overtakes the car, a Toyota Hyryder SUV can be seen coming from the opposite direction. At this point, there’s enough distance between the two for the bus to safely complete the overtake. It soon gets in front of the car. Things take a wild turn just when it starts to align itself in the left lane.

A White Tata Nexon.EV appears from behind the Hyryder, trying to overtake it through the bus’ lane. It sprints towards the bus. The EV driver likely took time noticing the bus. Neither of the drivers could do anything. They both slammed their brakes. In the blink of an eye, the electric SUV crashed straight into the bus’ front end.

The video shared by Reporter Live shows the aftermath of this incident. The EV’s frond end was completely damaged. The front bumper of the bus now sits in close proximity to the EV’s front windscreen, effectively crushing its bonnet underneath.

The front glass seems to have been fully damaged. The cabin, however, remains intact. All three pillars are in good shape, and many of the occupants could walk out of the debris by opening their respective doors.

The Nexon’s robust structure and build quality are to be thanked here. It even comes with safety features like six airbags, electronic stability control, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and more. As can be seen in the video, this e-SUV’s airbags deployed on time, minimising the collision’s effect on people inside.

The front end- particularly the bumper and the engine bay- of the bus was damaged in the crash. The large front glass, however, seems mostly unaffected. Even though the debris looks scary, reports from the place say that victims here had just minor injuries and are all recovering.

The Nexon.EV Is Very Safe!

The Nexon today is an extremely popular brand. It is available in both ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) and EV forms. Most buyers of the brand love the Nexon’s solid safety repuation and impressive performance in crash tests.

The EV is available with two battery packs- 30kWh and 45 kWh. The larger battery version was evaluated by Bharat NCAP, early this year. It scored 29.86 out of 32 for adult occupant protection and 44.95 out of 49 for child safety in BNCAP crash tests, earning itself a full five-star rating. The same is claimed to apply to 30kWh variants as well.

This electric SUV offers great value to the safety-conscious buyers. The 45kWh variant comes in four key trims- Creative, Fearless, Empowered and Empowered Plus. The base-spec Creative has an ex-showroom price of Rs 13.99 lakh. The range-topping variant costs Rs 17.29 lakh, ex-showroom.

Clearly, buyers with most budgets have a Nexon.EV variant to pick! This strategy is something the carmaker has been implementing on the Nexon’s ICE variants for years, and it continues to fetch results even today...
