A lot of people who have never owned an electric think that EVs are only great for saving fuel costs on a daily basis. However, apart from saving the planet and saving on fuel costs, EVs can also help in powering a home when there is no electricity. Yes, electric vehicles which offer V2L, or Vehicle-to-Load, feature can actually power an entire home and save the day. Recently, showing how this exact thing works out, a video of a Tata Nexon EV owner demonstrating the same has been shared online.

The host in the video mentions that this particular owner owns the Tata Nexon EV long-range variant, which offers the V2L feature. Following this, he then introduces the owner, who gives him a tour of his home and the setup he had to make for the V2L feature to work seamlessly. In the video, the owner shows the generator wiring setup and the V2L adapter, which he had to buy for this system.

He explains that he asked his local electrician to set up the wiring system in his house and add a switch, which can be connected to a generator. Following this, he adds that this entire wiring setup with 6mm wire cost him Rs 22,000. However, in some places, it can be done at Rs 20,000 as well. Following this, he mentions that he also had to pay Rs 5,000 for the genuine Tata V2L, which gets plugged into the charging port of the vehicle.

How does this system work?

After showing the complete setup, the owner highlights that the electrician, after completing the setup, has added a three-pin socket at the end of the wiring. This socket then gets plugged into the three-pin port of the V2L adapter, and after this, the entire home gets power from the battery pack of the Tata Nexon EV. The owner then shows that after plugging in, a button on the right side of the boot has to be pressed.

Additionally, the water purifier has also been added in the wiring. Only the fridge and a few other higher power-consuming gadgets have not been integrated into the wiring.

He then explains that the vehicle has an in-built feature that the charge percentage of the Nexon EV will not go below 30 percent of the electricity being continuously used. Apart from this, the owner highlights that so far, this feature has been very helpful. The Tata Nexon EV long-range comes equipped with a 45 kWh battery pack that offers a range of 489 km on a single full charge, as claimed by the company.
