Tata Motors enjoys a good market share in India's passenger car space and the Nexon is a model opted by many. It is, in fact, the SUV with the largest number of variants on sale and with the most diverse set of powertrains. You can buy it in petrol, diesel and CNG fuel options, and there are two different all-electric powertrains offered as well. However, owning a Nexon hasn't been a pleasant experience for all buyers, courtesy of the poor after-sales care and parts availability. We aren't the ones saying this! In a recent video shared on YouTube, the host, who used to own a diesel Nexon previously, explains the hardships and struggles he had to face in ownership and how he managed to sell it off finally...

In the video shared on JBI TV, the host (Jaiby) says that he had bought his diesel-powered Nexon in 2021. He sold the vehicle off in 2025, with approximately 75,000 kilometres on its odometer. The deal fetched him just 6 lakh rupees, and he says that the vehicle had unpaid finance worth 5.75 lakh rupees at the time of selling. This meant that he received just Rs 25,000 after all dues were settled! Why did he have to sell the Nexon in the first place? Well, the answer to this question could make you turn away from buying a Tata car or SUV in the future.

The host says that he has spent over one lakh rupees for repairing and maintenance of the Nexon, in the month that preceded the sale. He says that he doesn't even have a count of visiting service centres during the ownership. These were unbelievably frequent, pointing at the poor reliability of the product.

Within the first six months of ownership, Jaiby had to leave the SUV at the dealership for 30-40 days for repairs! According to him, even the technicians failed to diagnose the problem and even admitted the same openly. This ex-Nexon owner also says that the vehicle used to give him headaches by either breaking down completely or losing power and dropping into a state in which it crawls and is barely driveable.

He also says that the vehicle used to confuse him with warning lights. These used to turn on for no reason, and the sensors used to get damaged - says the disappointed owner. Delays in getting the job done and the financial burden associated with the same seem to have bothered the owner much. He also says that the Nexon has poor resale value.

He seems to be extremely dissatisfied by the service quality as well. This owner also states that Tata's spare part costs are high. He says that the stock Nexon uses (Tata-branded) alternators, originally sourced from Valeo. This costs around Rs 16,000 at Tata dealerships, while marketplaces like Boodmo have this listed for under 13,000, indicating a premium of around 3,000. The ownership is thus going to be expensive.

Another major incident he says, was when the engine oil spilt out and drenched almost every powertrain-related part, while the vehicle was being operated. Many parts had to be replaced and major repairs needed to be done to get the car back. Jaiby says he couldn't take it any longer and decided to sell it off. At last, a technician who was hired to fix the car decided to buy it, relieving Jaiby of his headaches.

Long story short, this owner is extremely unhappy with the ownership experience of the Nexon. Making things all the more suspicious, most Tata dealerships do not allow owners to watch and check on their cars being serviced. This lack of transparency is alarming for many.
