Volkswagen Polo Crashes Into Tata Nexon: Here’s The Result (Video)

Tata Motors cars in the last few years have become extremely popular for their safety. It has several five-star safety-rated vehicles in its lineup, including the Nexon sub-compact SUV. Recently, a video has gone viral on the internet in which a Tata Nexon EV was shown after it was involved in a rear-end crash with a Volkswagen Polo. The main highlight of this short clip was that the Polo was completely destroyed, but the Nexon was fully intact. Now, does this make the Polo an unsafe car? Here’s the explanation.
The video showing the accident between a Tata Nexon and a Volkswagen Polo has been shared on Youtube by Fun Life Kiran on their channel. In this short clip, the cameraman first shows the rear end of a black Tata Nexon EV. He mentions that this vehicle was hit in the rear by a Volkswagen Polo hatchback.
Following this, the cameraman then pans the shot and shows the Volkswagen Polo. We can note that the entire front end of this particular Polo was destroyed. The majority of the damage was on the front right portion, where the entire headlight, bumper, and bonnet were pushed in. Additionally, the front left headlight was also broken, and so was the bumper.
A number of people on the internet have been praising Tata Motors’ Nexon EV in this accident for being an extremely safe car that can withstand such an accident without any damage. However, it has to be noted that even though the Nexon is a five-star safety-rated vehicle, it has nothing to do with this particular accident.
As we can note, this particular incident is a rear-end accident. In most cases, and in this particular case as well, the crumple zones of the Volkswagen Polo took the brunt of the impact. For those who may not be aware, crumple zones are designed by car makers to absorb the entire impact so that the passenger cabin does not get destroyed during the accident.
This ensures that the occupants sitting in the vehicle are completely safe. Now, had the Tata Nexon hit the Volkswagen Polo from the rear, it would have also been destroyed in the same manner. Additionally, the reason why Polo’s crumple zone was hit in this accident is due to the height difference between the two vehicles as well.
Many people, after watching this video, will believe that Tata Motors cars are the safest and that other cars are not that safe. However, as we have cleared this misconception, more people will now become aware. Apart from this, there is also another misconception in India that vehicles with body panels that have a hollow sound or a slight flex in them are unsafe.
We would like to mention that this is absolutely not true. A vehicle’s safety has nothing to do with the exterior body panels. All of the thin body panels on the outside of the car are cosmetic and do not play any role in making a vehicle safe. What actually makes a car safe are the structural components like crash bars, crumple zones, and the strength of the chassis.
All of these things cannot be touched by people from the outside. So, next time you see a video where someone flexes an exterior body panel and gives a judgment on whether the vehicle is safe or not, you will know that what matters is inside the vehicle.
