If you own a Tata Safari 4×4 or are a fan of one, this story would interest you. Towing vehicles to the rescue isn’t uncommon among off-roaders and SUV owners. In a recent incident, an older-generation Tata Safari pulled a multi-axle truck out of snow. A video of the same was later shared online, which is currently amassing a lot of views.

The caption of the video reads: “Rescued this big rig from the snow with my trusty 4×4! Having a capable vehicle isn’t just about bragging rights, it’s about taking responsibility and lending a helping hand when others need it. Not just playing in the snow, but making a difference.”

The exact location of this incident remains unknown. But since this is winter and many parts of places like Himachal Pradesh and J&K have snow-covered roads, this could be from somewhere there. At the beginning of the video, we see a multi-axle truck stuck in snow, near to the road.

A Tata Safari 4×4 is standing nearby and has a towing rope attached to it, connecting the two together. It soon starts to pull the truck out of the snow. The current Safari ( the bigger Harrier!) has a towing capacity of 2.5 Tons. The older model could do much better. A few minutes and a couple of tries later, this Safari managed to get the truck out of the snow.

The owner of this Safari has rescued several other vehicles as well. Another video shows him towing a couple of Chevrolet Taveras parked out of the snow. When you live in a snowy place, it is good to have people like this around, whom you can rely on for recoveries.

Tata Safari: How It Evolved Over The Years

The OG Tata Safari had a charm to it. It looked different, felt unique to drive, and had a capable diesel powertrain. The SUV was based on Telcoline’s Tata X2 body-on-frame platform. The first generation SUV had the Telcoline’s 2.0-litre Peugeot XD88 turbodiesel engine that could make 87 PS. It was mated to a synchromesh forward five-speed manual gearbox and had optional 4WD as well.

In 2003, the Safari was updated with a 2.1 litre 16V petrol engine, that was developed by Tata Motors and AVL. It was available till 2005. The second generation had a new 3.0-litre four-cylinder diesel common rail direct injection (DICOR) with 116 PS on tap. This engine could churn out 300 Nm of torque. This is also the first direct-injection diesel engine on any Tata model.

Tata Safari Storme

The successor to this engine was the 2.2 DICOR based on the PSA Group’s DW12. It used to produce 140 hp and 320 Nm. This was a significant chunk of additional power and torque over the predecessor.

The Safari Storme that came later ( and was sold from 2012 to 2019) had a much better powertrain setup. It featured the improved Varicor 400 engine. The engine features Varicor (Variable Turbine Technology) 32-bit Electronically Controlled and could produce 156 PS and 400 Nm. The 2017 update added a new six-speed automatic transmission to the Storme.

It was a notable improvement over all the previous Safari generations, in many ways. Tata back then, claimed that over 100 changes were made to it, compared to the Safari Dicor.
