This incident occurred near Muttukadu on the East Coast Road (ECR), Chennai, at midnight. The video questions the safety of the public, women in particular, on the Indian roads. It starts by showing a Tata Safari bearing the DMK flag, stopping in front of the car in which at least two women were travelling. A guy got out of the SUV and ran towards their car, while the Safari turned and parked itself across the road, blocking it completely. The young guys seem to be intoxicated at the time of the incident.
The women in the car sensed danger and started to panic. We can also hear a man asking them to stay calm. They could be heard asking each other to keep the doors and windows locked. They soon decided to reverse the car as fast as they could. Some of them frantically tried to contact their relatives and seek help.
This incident blocked the ECR for some time, causing the other vehicles to come to a halt as well. People did not seem to protest, probably due to the DMK flag that the Tata Safari had on it.
The car started reversing so that they could take an alternate route. The gang in Safari, however, had no plans to back off, and began chasing them. The video then shows the group of young men in the Tata SUV blocking the smaller vehicle’s path once again, this time, boxing them in with no choice to escape.

Political Reflections Of The Incident
The opposition parties- BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) and AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) have raised concerns about the incident. The Leader of Opposition and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami asked if the DMK flag was a license to unleash violence on women or commit other crimes.
Several BJP and AIADMK leaders have already shared the video on their social handles, cornering the ruling party. Women’s safety under DMK has lately been a topic of discussion, especially after the Anna University sexual assault case.
The Women Took The Legal Route
Following the horrifying incident, the women in the smaller vehicle filed a complaint at the Kanathur Police Station. An investigation is known to be already underway.
