Drag race videos become a common thing on the internet whenever a new vehicle, be it a bike or car, is launched in the market. The owners of these cars often do such videos to showcase the performance of the new vehicle against other vehicles from the same segment or maybe even a segment above. Tata Sierra is one of the hot topics on the internet, and we have started seeing a lot of content around the vehicle. Here we have another video, where a brand-new Tata Sierra SUV is seen competing against a Mahindra XUV700 SUV.

The video has been shared by Plus Drive on his YouTube channel as Shorts. In this video, we see the vlogger quickly introducing the SUVs. Both SUVs have petrol engines. The Tata Sierra in the video uses a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that generates 160 PS and 255 Nm of peak torque.

The Mahindra XUV700 uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates 200 PS and 380 Nm of peak torque. In this video, the vlogger aligns both vehicles at the start line. The vlogger is driving the Sierra, and he turns off the AC and puts the car into Sport mode.

He mentions that the XUV700 driver has also done the same thing in the SUV. Both SUVs prepare to start, and within no time, the race starts.

The Tata Sierra moves off the line almost quickly, and in no time, we expect the Mahindra XUV700 to take the lead as it generates more power and torque on paper. However, that was not the case here. The Tata Sierra was the one in the lead, and right behind that, we see the Mahindra too.

It was a neck-to-neck competition where Mahindra might have won the race if the track was slightly longer. The Tata Sierra crossed the finish line first, and within the next milliseconds, the Mahindra did.

So, why did the Mahindra lose despite having a bigger and more powerful engine? The answer to that is in the weight of the vehicle. The Mahindra XUV700 petrol weighs anywhere from 1,800 kilograms to 2,000 kg. The Tata Sierra, on the other hand, weighs around 1,200 kg. This is actually a major factor when it comes to such drag races.

The Mahindra XUV700 turbocharged petrol engine, despite generating more power and torque, is unable to keep up with the Sierra just because of the weight. The extra weight of the XUV700 is actually holding the engine or the vehicle back from performing the way it should. In short, the Tata Sierra has a better power-to-weight ratio when compared to the XUV700, and that is what helped the Sierra in this drag race.

The results of this race don’t mean that the XUV700 is a slow SUV by any means. In fact, the Sierra is positioned in a segment below the XUV700, and even then it gave the XUV700 a tough competition. If the SUVs were to do a long race or a top-speed race, the XUV700 might have won the race, as it has a higher top speed than that of the Sierra.
