Tata Sierra ROQ Edition: Fully Accessorised, Land Rover Defender Looks

The new Tata Sierra has been in the spotlight ever since its launch late last month. Its starting ex-showroom price of Rs 11.49 lakh played a key role in shaping the stellar acceptance. The bigger reason, however, is the design. Despite having big shoes to fill, the new Sierra impressed with its design. Soon after the launch, people started discussing its imposing stance and strong road presence. Tata Motors now plans to push this further with a long list of accessories and add-ons. We saw these in detail at the first drive, where the carmaker displayed a fully accessorised version of the SUV, calling it the ‘ROQ edition’.
Tata Motors has designed the accessories range, keeping actual buyers and their aspirations in mind. The range spans from simple cosmetic enhancements like body vinyls to fully functional deployable side ladders, toq hooks and expedition roof racks. These aim to highlight the rugged, adventure-ready nature of the new Sierra. (Really? Well, we will get to that later!)
The ROQ edition features a Black plastic cladding on top of its actual grille, with bold ‘SIERRA’ lettering. Two textured Black inserts can also be seen on the bonnet. These would, many a time, remind you of the Defender. The front bumper has a Matte Black sticker, adding more rugged character to the design. We can also see an additional dual-tone cladding at the front and a Silver skid plate.
A unique textured element (that looks like a sticker) is seen on the front fender. The Piano Black surrounds on the wheel arches get an additional rough-looking cladding. The vehicle also gets fixed side steps and a textured finish on the B-pillars. This edition even has a Black sticker running along the massive rear glass area.
The rear hatch has a bold, Black plastic cladding with ‘SIERRA’ written on it. The rear bumper seems to be slightly tweaked and there’s even a tow hook installed on this unit. These accessories have a combined worth of Rs 50,000.
Now comes the biggest attraction. This vehicle is even fitted with an expedition roof rack with a deployable side ladder. We have seen this setup a lot on the new Land Rover Defender. In addition to being functional and useful on road trips, it enhances the overall visual appeal of the SUV.
In the case of Sierra, it brings in a lot of character to the overall design. More importantly, it will be fully functional, and not just a cosmetic add-on. You can use the ladder to climb up the SUV and probably host a tent there, or maybe just sit on the roof rack and enjoy the view around! Tata hasn’t revealed the price of this setup yet.
Let’s admit it: the ROQ edition tries to bring out the overlander persona of the new Sierra! Functional enhancements like the tow hook and the expedition roof rack with integrated side ladder are all part of this effort.
Yes, it feels good to have these on an SUV, especially something as exciting as the Sierra. However, given its 1.5L engine lineup and the Front Wheel Drive (FWD) layout, taking the new Sierra on hardcore overlanding expeditions is off the menu. Yes, you can still use it to drive somewhere that’s not too challenging for an FWD car, and enjoy a magnificent sunset.
The ARGOS platform which it is based on, is capable of supporting All Wheel Drive (AWD), and Tata Motors has plans of rolling out an AWD-equipped version in 2027. If so, the actual scope of Sierra-based expeditions will widen further.
