Moving Tata Tiago.EV Catches Fire - Passengers Escape Narrowly [Video]
Over the last few years, the number of new cars that have caught fire while driving has increased rapidly. There are a number of reasons why this is happening; however, the bigger point is that it is an alarming issue. Recently, a Tata Tiago.ev, the smallest electric car on offer from Tata Motors, caught fire in Ajmer, Rajasthan. A video showing this hatchback on fire in the middle of a road has been shared online.

This video showing the Tata Tiago.ev burning on the road has been shared on YouTube by Piyush Maths Academy on their channel. In this short video, we can note that a Tata Tiago.ev, which appears to be the top-of-the-line variant, was seen with fire in the front. Initially, the fire was limited to the headlight portion of this hatchback. However, it then started increasing quickly.
What happens next is that a ton of people come very close to the vehicle to inspect it. A few people even opened the driver-side door of this Tiago.ev. At this point, the vehicle's headlights and fog lights were flickering. Soon after this a man used a powder-based fire extinguisher, which surprised everyone, and they started running away from the vehicle and maintaining a safe distance. Soon after, this fire was extinguished by the firefighters.
Where did this happen?
As per the reports, this particular incident took place on May 16th at around 10 PM in Ajmer, Rajasthan. The owner of this Tata Tiago.ev, which has the registration number RJ 01 CF 4043, Bharat Keswani, was traveling with his wife. It has been mentioned that the couple was driving over a flyover when suddenly the front portion of their vehicle caught fire, and they immediately stopped the car.
The owner and his wife then, without wasting any time, immediately ran away from the vehicle and maintained a safe distance from it to avoid any injuries. Following this, more people started gathering around the burning vehicle, and a fire brigade was called to the location to extinguish the fire. Thankfully, no one was hurt in this incident.
What caused this fire?
As per the reports, the fire was caused due to an electrical short circuit. However, the exact reason behind this short circuit is unknown. Some people have speculated that it could be due to an aftermarket fitting in the front of the vehicle. However, it can be noted that this particular Tiago.ev is the top-of-the-line variant, so it does not seem like the owner would have added any aftermarket modification.
Presently, we'll have to wait until the real reason is announced. Thankfully, the fire on the vehicle was limited to the front portion. As a result, the battery pack of this particular car was intact. Generally, when an electric car catches fire, and if it spreads to the battery pack, it becomes very difficult to extinguish.

The Tata Tiago.ev, as mentioned, is the most affordable electric vehicle in Tata Motors' electric lineup in India. This model starts at Rs 7.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 11.14 lakh. It comes with two battery pack options: a 19.2 kWh pack with a 250 km range and a 24 kWh pack with up to a 315 km range. In real-world conditions, it offers around 180 and 260 km, depending on driving style and traffic.
