Minors Cause Chaos By Riding Against Traffic On Flyover: One Arrested! [Video]

Underage driving has lately been on the rise in India. Recently, we have come across news of several accidents caused by minors. On March 27, 2025, four minors, on two separate two-wheelers, caused chaos in Chennai by rash-riding on public roads. The incident took place at around mid-night, and the police had to work hard to bring things under control. A video of the minors fleeing from the cops is now going viral.
In the video that's being circulated, we get to see the flyover that connects Ashok Nagar and Vadapalani in Chennai. The bridge is almost empty when we see two scooters speeding carelessly. Both have pillions on them, and the riders seem to be quite reckless. At the end of the bridge that they are approaching, we see a line of vehicles halted and waiting for something, controlled by the traffic police. The scooterists fail to get the hang of things until they get too close to the end of the flyover.
As they see the awaiting vehicles, one of the scooterists (who is riding a Honda Dio) senses danger and slow down. He realises that the cops are waiting to make them stop and book them for riding recklessly.
They have chosen the bridge for this, as they know that once the scooters enter it from one side, they'd be able to trap them if they block both ends of the flyover. Soon the other scooterists too sense danger. But it is then too late for them to do anything and the two run straight into the awaiting line of vehicles. The traffic policeman rushes to nab them.
The second scooter then decides to take an unusual path to flee. He makes takes his scooter to the edge of the bridge and 'jumps' the concrete rail that separates it from the road that's adjacent to it. This is indeed a dangerous stunt, and there are equal chances of the rider getting hurt and the vehicle getting damaged.
He somehow manages to make it to the road. The pillion, however, had to get off the scooter for it to make its way to the other side. As the rider continues to flee with the scooter, we see the pillion running after him, as he was left behind (in a way that the cops could easily book him). Policemen are also seen rushing to the scene.
The video also says that the four people involved in this incident were all minors- 14-year-olds, from the Mount Road and Triplicane areas. It also says that the police could nab one of them, while the others managed to escape. The youth rode their scooters arrogantly and performed stunts on public roads, as per reports. Their act disrupted the traffic around for some time.
The incident has caused the authorities and enforcement agencies to double down on inspections at vehicle check point on arterial stretches such as Anna Salai, Kamarajar Salai, and Rajaji Salai and take stricter actions against violators. The stretches mentioned above witness the greatest number of overspeeding incidents.
Mid-night overspeeding and dangerous riding on two-wheelers are getting increasingly common in Chennai. The Greater Chennai Traffic Police recently seized 35 two-wheelers which were involved in similar incidents.
At Teynampet, a rashly ridden two-wheeler reportedly hit a traffic police sub-inspector and constable, when they tried to stop it. To evade CCTV cameras of the place, many of these two-wheelers tie handkerchiefs around their number plates. The cops summoned the parents of the youth involved in these incidents and are also considering recommending the suspension of their driving licences.
