Drunk Student Rams Toyota Fortuner Into 7 Vehicles! [Video]

Driving under the influence of alcohol or other substances is a very serious offence. Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act (1988) clearly prohibits it. A horrifying case of drunken driving from Kerala shows just how dangerous it can be. Jubin Lalu Jacob, a 21-year-old college student from Kottayam, went on a drunk-driving spree with his Toyota Fortuner, ramming it into several other vehicles en route.
This youngster is a student of the CMS college, Kottayam. The brutal incident took place on July 31, 2025- the same day that the college conducted its freshers' day. The Toyota Fortuner in this case, had White paint and a VIP number plate which reads 'KL 33 P 9909'. Surveillance cams installed in the area managed to capture the SUV's rampage.
It started from a textile shop nearby. Jubin started driving the SUV from the shop. He soon started hitting vehicles that were on his way. CCTVs and security cameras captured some of these crashes. One of those footage shows a Blue (older-generation) Maruti Swift parked in front of a shop. A person can be seen seated in the driver's seat.
The Fortuner suddenly shows up and rams into its rear. The impact is sizeable, and both vehicles take notable damage. The Swift's rear bumper, tailgate, tail lamps and the rear windshield are damaged. The contact also makes it jolt forward. Soon after the crash, a woman comes running towards the Swift, and the Fortuner flees the scene. Its front fascia seems to have dents, bruises and other damages.
Visuals from another camera show the SUV hitting a two-wheeler and two people, including the rider, making a narrow escape. The two-wheeler rider had pulled over and was talking to another person standing nearby. From the video, it seems like they noticed the Fortuner charging towards them, likely due to its engine sound. Backed by quick thinking and an abundance of luck, they 'jumped out of its way'. The SUV, however, hit the two-wheeler, a blink after this.
Reports say that during the spree, this Fortuner rammed into at least seven vehicles. Luckily, there were no casualties involved, and no serious injuries. According to local media reports, the driver wasn't alone in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
In a conversation with the media later, an eyewitness said that the Fortuner hit a couple and an autorickshaw before running into a workshop and spreading fear there.
The onlookers were scared by the chain of crashes, but were not ready to give up. They were determined to bring down the driver and hold him accountable for the act. A group of locals started chasing the SUV. The Fortuner continued its mad run and finally came to a complete standstill after it crashed into a Banyan tree in Panampalam, near Arpookkara, Kottayam. The driver was soon handed over to the police. In the investigation that followed, liquor was reportedly confiscated from the SUV.
According to a report released in June, Kottayam reported the highest number of drunken driving cases in Kerala so far this year! As many as 9,632 cases were registered between January 1 and May 31. Last year, the count stood at 15,797. Taking the alarming spike into consideration, the district court has increased the fine to Rs 1000 or 2000. Furthermore, the violators are now being made to stand in the court verandah for a day!
The police is also looking to cancel the driving licenses of repeat offenders. They will have to work closely with the MVD to get this done.
