Toyota Fortuner 2WD Attempts Jumping Divider: Gets Stuck [Video]
Driving on Indian roads is a challenge, and there are several examples on the internet that prove the same. Reckless driving or riding, and road rage incidents have sadly become a common sight on our roads. We also lack discipline on the road, which leads to inconvenience to other road users. We also see SUV owners who consider the road an obstacle course and try to drive through potholes and medians to test the capabilities of their vehicles. Sometimes, such stunts do not end well. Here we have one such video where a Toyota Fortuner, while trying to drive over the divider, gets royally stuck in a drain.
The video has been shared by DM Auto Corner on their Instagram page. The exact location of this incident is not known, but the Fortuner seen here has a Uttar Pradesh registration. In this video, we see the SUV trying to jump the divider in the middle of the road. It looks like the SUV was stuck in traffic congestion, and the driver decided to get to the opposite side of the road to bypass the traffic.
He was too confident about the capabilities of his vehicle, as he was driving a Fortuner. In fact, overconfidence is the right word in this case. While he was busy trying to find a way to get to the other side of the road, he probably forgot to check the median properly. Usually, on many dividers, authorities build water channels or drains to ensure that water does not accumulate on the sides of the road.
The driver failed to notice one such drain and drove the SUV right into it. There were bushes growing on the divider, which could have also hidden the drain from sight. The left front wheel of the Toyota Fortuner got stuck in the drain. It is at this point that he probably regretted that his Fortuner was not equipped with 4x4.
The 2WD Fortuner was struggling to get out. One of the front wheels was stuck, while the other wheel, which was free, did not have any power going to it. The rear wheels were struggling for traction and were unable to pull the SUV out as the front wheel was wedged into the drain.
This is one of those embarrassing situations that shows that driving an SUV is not enough. At times, you need to know your surroundings and assess the area before attempting such stunts.
Driving on a divider is illegal, but even if he was forced to drive on it for some reason, he should have checked for the safest route to avoid this situation. The Fortuner has enough ground clearance to drive over the divider seen in the video. However, this silly mistake is likely to cost him more.
If you watch the entire video, you can see that the Fortuner driver eventually manages to pull the car out of the drain on his own. He was trying to save time by driving on the wrong side or bypassing traffic, but by the time he got stuck, all the other vehicles had moved ahead while he remained stuck. If the Fortuner seen here had been a 4x4, he might have gotten out of the situation faster.
Never attempt such stunts on public roads, as this can easily cause an accident. Any vehicle coming from the opposite direction could have crashed into the Fortuner. If you are stuck in a traffic jam, the only thing you can do in most cases is wait. Anything else might make things worse for you, just like it did for the Fortuner driver in this case.
