Google Maps is an essential part of our lives, and we often follow the directions online when we are going to a new place. While in most cases, people following the directions reach their destinations, there are cases where people have found themselves in trouble because of the same. There have been instances where Google Maps has caused accidents after redirecting people onto under-construction highways and expressways. We now have a report from Jaipur, where a trailer got stuck and created a seven-hour-long traffic jam in a marketplace after the driver followed Google Maps.

Truck stuck in market

The incident has been reported from Jaipur’s Alwar region. A ten-wheeler trailer truck got stuck in the narrow lanes of a marketplace in Jaipur. According to the police, the truck driver was on his way to Dausa from Jaipur. The driver was using Google Maps, which probably showed him the easiest or fastest way to his destination.

The driver trusted the navigation, followed the route blindly, and within no time, found himself in trouble and regretted the decision. The truck driver had deviated from the state highway for this shortcut, which passed through a busy marketplace with narrow lanes in the Tunga region.

As mentioned above, the driver was in a long vehicle, which made things even more challenging. As he proceeded, the lanes only got narrower, and in no time, the driver found himself at a spot where he couldn’t drive forward. There was not enough space for the trailer to turn as there were other vehicles on the road.

This meant the truck was not going anywhere, and it had also created a traffic jam in the area. While the driver was trying to move forward, the trailer rubbed against a few shops and vehicles, damaging them. This long trailer caused inconvenience to the locals, and shopkeepers even started expressing their frustration to the driver.

Things soon escalated as the shopkeepers started demanding compensation for the damages. The driver panicked, left the trailer, and fled the spot. Later, the authorities arrived and started looking for ways to remove the trailer. When they realized that the trailer was not in a position to be driven out, they took help from a crane.

The police managed to remove the trailer after hours of hectic work. In fact, the trailer had caused a seven-hour-long traffic congestion in the area. This is not the first time we have seen something like this happen in India. In Google Maps, we have modes for pedestrians, cars, bikes, and even public transport like trains, but there is nothing for truck drivers.

So they often follow the routes that Google Maps shows for car users. Cars are small and can be easily driven on narrow roads, but a vehicle as long as a trailer might not be able to do the same. In the past, we have come across reports where truck drivers following Google Maps at night accidentally drove into a reservoir and got stuck in it.

Similarly, we have also come across several cases where car owners have driven into rivers and even down staircases after following Google Maps.
