Unscientifically built speed breakers are a problem in many parts of our country. We have seen people hit the underbody of their vehicles on such large and poorly constructed speed bumps. The basic idea behind a speed breaker is to make the driver slow down to avoid accidents on the road. Here we have a video where an unmarked speed breaker has turned into a dangerous obstacle for road users in Gurugram. In this video, we see multiple vehicles, including a BMW luxury sedan, going airborne after driving over an unmarked speed bump.

The video has been shared by Bunny Punia on his Instagram page. According to the video, the speed breaker is built on Golf Course Road in Gurugram. It is a newly constructed speed bump, and the comment section mentions that it was built overnight. As seen in the video, the speed breaker looks new and has no markings on it.

A person who regularly drives on this road knows the route clearly and is confident that there are no speed breakers on it. In the first clip, we see a BMW 5-Series traveling at high speed. The driver is completely unaware of the newly built speed breaker, and as the car approaches the bump, the driver cannot react in time.

The sedan hits the bump and goes airborne, landing at least a couple of meters ahead of the speed breaker. This happens at high speed, and when the car makes contact with the road again, the underbody scrapes against the surface, and we even see sparks. Thankfully, the sedan does not lose control, but we are unsure if the occupants in the car are safe and uninjured.

The car continues moving forward without crashing into the median on the right side. After the BMW passes, we see another vehicle approaching the speed breaker. This time, it is not a car but a large tipper truck. The tipper driver is also unaware of this newly built speed breaker. The truck drives over the breaker at high speed, and just like in the first case, we see the truck’s front wheel lift off the ground momentarily.

As it is a heavy vehicle, the chances of the driver losing balance are high. Usually, we don’t see truck drivers wearing seat belts in India, and for this reason, the driver could easily have lost control of the truck as he might have been thrown from the seat. Fortunately, nothing like that happened in this case.

Such unmarked speed breakers on busy roads are extremely dangerous, especially at night. They are not easily visible, and as there are fewer vehicles on the road, people often drive faster than usual and may not have enough time to slow down or stop in time for such obstacles.

Drivers often panic in such situations and brake suddenly, causing them to lose control of the vehicle. This can lead to crashes with other vehicles or the median.

Authorities should avoid constructing speed breakers overnight without proper markings or signboards to prevent such accidents in the future. Also the contractor who built these speed breakers should also be made accountable for any accidents that happen due to the unscientically constructed speed breakers.
