Actor Unni Mukundan Buys A Land Rover Defender And Mini Countryman E JCW On The Same Day
Unni Mukundan is a South Indian actor who works primarily in the Malayalam movie industry. He garnered recognition from across India after the 2024 neo-noir action thriller 'Marco' became a Pan-Indian success. The actor has now made headlines by adding not one, but two luxury SUVs to his garage. He bought a brand-new Land Rover Defender and the Mini Countryman EV JCW on the same day.
Unni Mukundan's New Defender
Unni already owns a Defender HSE. Reports say that this SUV has a 2.0L petrol engine. The newly bought Defender is finished in a classy Black colour and likely hosts the V8 under its hood. More details of this vehicle and its powertrain are yet to surface. He made the purchase from Kochi's Muthoot JLR.
Land Rover launched the Defender in India in 2020. The 2025 range starts at 1.39 crores. It comes with updated interiors and a mightier V8 engine which can now be had on lower trims as well. The SUV continues to be offered in three different body styles- 90, 110 and 130.
Inside the cabin, the new Defender comes with features like 14-way heated/cooled electric seats, suede headliner and winged headrests, captain seats for the middle row (limited to the 130 guise alone), a new centre console, a 11.4-inch touchscreen with updated PiVi Pro, Meridian audio system and a refrigerator in the front centre console.
The V8 on the P425 variant produces 420bhp, and up to 517bhp on the P525. The X-Dynamic HSE and X variants now get the V8 as well. The 2.0L engine continues to be offered on the updated lineup as well. If you didn't know it yet, the Defender is underpinned by Land Rover's D7X platform.
The 2025 range continues to feature Land Rover’s terrain response system and an electronic air suspension. The SUV rides on all-terrain tyres. The carmaker has also bundled various options into a range of packs- Offroad Pack, Advanced Offroad Pack, Dynamic Handling Pack, and an Air Suspension Pack. This has helped to streamline the choices further.
Unni Buys Kerala's Mini Countryman EV JCW
The Malayalam actor has become the first one in Kerala to own the new Mini Countryman EV JCW. He took delivery from BMW Mini EVM Autokraft, the dealer in Kochi.
Called the Countryman E John Cooper Works Pack, this electric SUV was launched in India in June this year. It is in fact, an extremely limited edition, with just 20 units allotted to the Indian market. If you're lucky enough, this vehicle can be bought through Mini India's online store. The ex-showroom price stands at Rs 62 lakh. Unsurprisingly, the Countryman E JCW is brought in as completely built-up units (CBU).
The EV is based on the third-generation Countryman. The John Cooper Works Pack adds more character and excitement to it. Two exterior colourways are available- Legend Grey and Midnight Black. Unni Mukundan has opted for the Black. Key exterior highlights include black stripes, JCW grille, bumpers, side skirts, piano black trim, door sills and 19-inch wheels. The vehicle gets JCW-spec brakes as well.
Inside, the Countryman E JCW gets a JCW-spec steering wheel which comes with a dedicated Boost mode. JCW-specific details can also be seen on the seats and on the dashboard.
The Countryman EV is based on the same platform as the BMW iX1- BMW Group's FAAR platform. The electric powertrain of this SUV is capable of producing a peak power of 204bhp and up to 250Nm of torque. It can do the 0-100 kph sprint in just 8.6 seconds. The battery pack on offer is a 66.45kWh unit and claims a range of up to 462km per charge.
