The main purpose of speed breakers is to slow down a vehicle on the road to make sure that no accidents take place. However, a lot of speed breakers in India are made unscientifically, which instead of solving the problem of speeding, causes other problems. Recently, a video has been shared online in which multiple cars and sub-compact SUVs were seen getting stuck on two massive speed breakers.

SUVs get stuck on massive speed breaker

This video showing these speed breakers where vehicles were getting stuck has been shared on Instagram by Crazy Boy Balu 05 on their page. As per the video, these speed breakers are located in Anakapalle, which is a locality in the city of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and comes under the Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC).

In this short clip, we can note that there are two massive speed breakers which have been constructed next to each other, forming an off-road obstacle type of situation. It starts with a white-colored Skoda Kushaq SUV getting stuck on the first of the two speed breakers. We can note that despite the acceleration, the vehicle was unable to drive ahead as its wheels were spinning.

Soon after this, we can note that a few passengers sitting inside the car have to come out to reduce the weight. Finally, after a while, the video then showed that the SUV was able to drive over these speed bumps. After this, the video then shows an autorickshaw getting past it quickly.

However, just after this, we can note that another car — a Hyundai Santro — got stuck on the other lane going the other direction. It also could not drive over the bumper. Also, a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and a Tata Bolt can be seen getting stuck on the breaker as well.

Towards the end, a white Hyundai Venue can also be seen getting stuck as well. The driver of the Venue tries to drive over the bumper, but his attempts fail. Finally, after a while, he is able to drive it over. A few bigger trucks and buses also had to slow down a lot to be able to cross this speed breaker.

Unscientific speed breakers are a menace

The above-shown speed breaker is not the only one which we have seen so far that has caused problems. Last year, a video from Gurgaon was shared online in which a few luxury cars — a BMW 5-Series, a Mercedes Benz C-Class, a Fortuner, a Thar, and even a truck — were seen flying off. This particular speed breaker was unmarked, and due to this, speeding vehicles were flying after crossing it.

Thankfully, after the video became online, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) addressed this issue. They quickly installed warning signs and marked the speed breaker with reflective paint so that drivers could get alerted from far and reduce their vehicle’s speed accordingly.

In addition to these, there have been several other cases where authorities have constructed unscientific speed breakers which have caused major accidents. A lot of times, they also forget to mark these speed breakers due to which, at night, vehicles are unable to spot them. Thankfully, due to social media, these issues are now getting in front of the authorities and they are taking action quickly.
