Going on a road trip to Leh Ladakh is a dream for many people. However, there are a few people who not only go to Leh Ladakh but also take their own vehicles. Recently, a few videos have been shared online in which an automotive enthusiast took things to the next level as he took his vintage Rolls-Royce, Ford Mustang, and Mini Cooper to the mountains of Leh Ladakh. He had all of his cars towed to Leh and then drove them on the scenic roads of the mountains.

Ford Mustang in the Mountains of Leh

The videos showing the unique vintage cars being driven in Leh Ladakh have been shared on Instagram by Classic Car Adventures 70 on their page. In the first video, a yellow-colored 1979 Ford Mustang muscle car can be seen being driven on the curvy roads of Leh Ladakh.

As stated, this particular model is from 1979, and it is finished in a sporty shade of yellow. It has also been given racing stripes finished in matte black, which adds to the muscle car characteristic. The 1979 Mustang came powered by a 5.0-litre V8 that made 139 bhp and came mated to a four-speed automatic gearbox.

Also Took Rolls-Royce to Leh

Apart from this Ford Mustang, the owner has also taken his 1970 Rolls-Royce from Sonmarg to Leh. A few videos show this beautiful vintage Rolls-Royce being driven on roads filled with landscapes. This particular model is the 1970 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow.

This luxurious sedan came equipped with a massive 6.75-litre V8 engine, which was capable of producing 189 bhp and 400 Nm of torque. These power figures may not seem much by today’s standards, but back in the 1970s, it was extremely powerful. Popular cricketer MS Dhoni also owns a vintage Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith, which succeeded the Silver Shadow.

Classic Mini Cooper Has Also Been to Leh

In addition to the Rolls-Royce and Ford Mustang, this particular owner has also taken his classic Mini Cooper on the Leh Ladakh adventure as well. He first had a complete rebuild of his car and took care of all the essentials, following which this hatchback was loaded onto a flatbed truck.

It was then sent to Zojila, and from there, it was driven 326 km to reach Leh. The owner has shared snippets of his tour with this hatchback along with all his other vehicles. As for the classic Mini Cooper, most people will remember it from the popular television show “Mr. Bean.”

The star of the show, Rowan Atkinson, used to drive a yellow and black Mini Cooper. As for the Mini Cooper used by this particular gentleman, it is a 1971 Austin Mini Cooper, and it came equipped with a 1,275cc engine that made 64 bhp and 95 Nm of torque.

Why Don’t People Generally Take Older Cars to the Mountains?

Mustang and Rolls Royce in Ladakh

The owner of these three cars is a rare person who takes his vintage cars to the mountains. This is because most of these old cars are known for being very unreliable. Due to this, the risk of them breaking down in such places increases. Also, as these vehicles are very rare, finding parts for them in such remote locations becomes next to impossible.

In order to keep this issue of reliability low, as mentioned, the owner first gets these vehicles towed to the starting point of the journey. From there, he, along with his friends and family, drives these cars up the scenic roads of Leh Ladakh.
