Aprilia Replaces RS457 Engine That Blew Up On Video: Owner Pleased With Resolution
Last month, a video became viral on the internet in which an Aprilia RS457’s engine blew up on a highway while the rider was riding at the speed of 150 kmph. At the time, the rider highlighted that this happened with his 8-month-old bike which had only covered around 8,000 km. Now, thankfully, Aprilia quickly came to the rescue of this particular RS457 owner and provided him with a brand-new replacement engine.
Aprilia replaces RS457’s engine under warranty
This original video of the Aprilia RS457 engine blowing up during a ride was shared on YouTube by Farhan Khan. Now, following the replacement of this particular RS457’s engine, an update has been added by Aliasalee on their page on Instagram. In the post, the owner of this Aprilia RS457 has mentioned that Motoplex Bengaluru, the official dealership of Aprilia, has provided him with a new engine.
The owner has stated, “@motoplex_bengaluru thank you so much for getting my bike back with a new engine, it's truly appreciated. Special thanks to Kiran and Prem from the service dept for my constant updates on the bike and getting things done at an acceptable pace.”
What actually happened?
For those who may not be familiar with this matter, last month in April, a video was shared in which the owner of this particular Aprilia RS457 went on a highway joyride with his friends. He had mentioned that one of the bike's clutches was recently replaced by the company. Meanwhile, the other bike had some unspecified issues. Following this, both bikes then started drag racing against each other on the highway.
It was then noted that this particular owner's RS457 was consistently underperforming. In the video, it even lost to a KTM RC 390 as well. Following this, the owner then switched his bike with another RS457; however, it too was underperforming. What happened next was that after riding the bike at 140–150 kmph, suddenly there was a loud sound, and smoke started pouring out of the exhaust.
Later, it was found that its engine had blown. Following this, what happened was that the motorcycle was taken to the Aprilia dealership on a flatbed. The motorcycle then sat in the dealership for 8 days, where it was waiting for inspection from Piaggio officials and the Area Service Manager. After this, the service was eventually completed, and the bike's engine was replaced under warranty.
Aprilia RS457: Plagued with issues
The Aprilia RS457 is one of the most hyped motorcycles which has been launched in the past two years. However, after the initial success and deliveries, numerous owners have highlighted their bikes have given them a lot of trouble. One of the owners mentioned that his bike’s brakes felt very faded and did not inspire confidence.
He added that his bike’s chain tensioner started making noise. Also, just before this issue, his 6,000 km-run bike’s cylinder assembly head was replaced. Apart from this particular owner, another owner shared a very sad story where he was threatened by his local Aprilia dealership to take down the videos in which he had complained about his bike and experience.
This owner was also told that his bike's cylinder head would get replaced under warranty. However, when he rejected this repair, he was threatened that if he did not delete the videos from social media platforms, his bike’s warranty would be voided. And he was also told that he would never be able to get any other service from Aprilia and Piaggio.
