Inflation in India is a major concern, and people have been complaining about this for quite some time. While the government is planning to make changes to the GST slabs, the middle-class man will have to suffer until the announcement is official. There have been cases where people have ended up paying more in tax than the actual value of the product. Here we have one such social media post that has been going viral on the internet. As per the post, a man bought 4 new tyres for his car and ended up paying the price of a 5th tyre as GST.

The image has been shared by Karaavali Express on their X profile. It looks like the image was shared with them by one of their followers. The customer had probably gone to a shop to get the tyres on his car changed. He replaced all four tyres, and when he got the bill, he was probably shocked to see the amount. He wasn’t surprised by the price of the tyres but was shocked to see the amount he ended up paying as tax.

In the image of the bill shared on social media, we do not see the size of the tyre or the brand. However, it mentions the price of one tyre as Rs. 2,890.63. The cost of 4 tyres by this calculation should be Rs. 11,562.52. The final amount that he paid was Rs. 14,800. The difference amount is Rs. 3,238. What is this amount, you ask? Well, this is the amount that he paid as tax to the government. Most car and vehicle tyres fall under the 28 percent GST slab. This means the customer buying a tyre will have to pay 28 percent as tax.

If you check the image, the tax part is clearly mentioned at the bottom. From the customer’s perspective, he actually paid the money for 5 tyres. However, he only got 4. The tax amount he paid was actually more than the cost of a single tyre itself.

This is the reason why he ended up sharing the image of the bill on social media. The government is planning to shuffle the items in the 28 and 12 percent GST slabs. If that happens, the amount we pay in tax might come down, and many things that the general public needs on a day-to-day basis might get cheaper or more affordable.

The comment section under this post is filled with sarcastic remarks like, “This money will go into building the roads on which these tyres will move smoothly. You will recover the cost of the 5th tyre in a month.”, “You just got the govt a tyre.”, “My contribution towards the Swiss bank account of our politicos ?.”, “Bhakts say the taxes were higher during the pre-GST era.”, “You can get it from the roadside puncture wala... he will not charge any GST... and you can also bargain with him...” and so on.
