Mahindra showcased the concept Thar.e—the electrified iteration of the Thar off-road SUV—back in August of 2023. As per the company, the production version of this SUV will be launched in India in 2026. However, recently a video has gone viral on the internet in which a Mahindra Thar three-door owner was seen showing off his “Electric Thar.” Now many people are wondering if it's actually an electrified Thar or if it is just a prank. If you are also one of those people, then we are here to clear the air around this “Electric Thar.”

Mahindra Thar “Electric”

The video showing the Mahindra Thar with an EV registration plate has been shared on Instagram by Sardar On Thar on their page. It starts off with the person recording the video showing this particular Mahindra Thar three-door with a green BH registration plate. For those who may not be aware, the green registration plate is only provided to electric vehicles.

Following this, we can note that the owner of this particular Thar takes it to a charging station. It can be seen that the person at the station was confused, and he told the Thar owner that petrol and diesel vehicles cannot be parked here as it is the spot for electric vehicles. He then reassured him that his Thar is electric.

So the person then brings the charger for him. Soon after, this person shows the fuel lid of the Thar where he mentions that it also has a diesel filling side and an electric charging port, which is the blue one on the right side.

He then sits inside the vehicle and shows that after thirty minutes his vehicle has 72 percent battery and has a range of 573 km. He then adds that he is very happy with this EV conversion of his Thar and if someone else wants the same, they can send him a private message.

Mahindra Thar electric: Real or fake?

A lot of people who have seen this video have become convinced that this particular Thar has actually been converted into an electric vehicle. However, the reality is that this is just a prank video and it is not an electric vehicle. Now you may be saying that this particular car has the official green registration plate. However, the truth is that it is a mock number plate.

When we checked around, the registration number reveals that it is a diesel 4X4 variant. This proves that the owner was just joking. However, if you are still not convinced, then you may have noted that the charging port which he showed was actually the DPF filling nozzle. Also, the battery percent was actually the DPF level, and lastly, the range he showed was from the available diesel in his SUV.

Has shared another video

This is not the only video in which the owner has shared the adventures of his “electric Thar.” He has recently shared another video in which he was seen holding a wire and standing next to an electricity transformer. He says that he is charging his Thar electric to go on a road trip. He also jokingly adds that normal chargers take time, but with this he can get full charge in just 5 minutes.
