Volkswagen Virtus with massive 20-inch alloy wheels

India is full of car guys who love modifying their cars to the extreme. Sometimes, these mods look decent, but a lot of times, they look very distasteful. Recently, we came across a Volkswagen Virtus with a set of massive 20-inch alloy wheels, and its looks are very polarizing. Here is a detailed walkaround of this Volkswagen Virtus, where the owner talks about the costs of all the modifications done on this car.

This video, showing the Volkswagen Virtus with massive 20-inch alloy wheels, has been shared on YouTube by Harsh NCR on their channel. It starts off with a few beauty shots of this Volkswagen Virtus, following which the vlogger introduces the owner of this particular car. He asks him about the details of all the modifications done on his sedan.

Modifications done on this Volkswagen Virtus

First off, they start at the front of this Volkswagen Virtus, and the vlogger asks about the modifications. To this, the owner replies that the car has been given aftermarket LED fog lights and auxiliary lights hidden inside the lower front grille. Apart from this, the front end looks like a stock Virtus.

Next up, the vlogger and the owner of the car move to the side profile. He then shows the main highlight of this sedan, which is its 20-inch alloy wheels. The vlogger asks the owner if he had to cut anything to fit these wheels. To this, he replies that the front bumper and the rear portion of the wheel well had to be trimmed off to fit these massive alloy wheels. He also added that the car has been given spacers to bring out the wheels.

During the conversation, the owner was then asked about the cost of these alloy wheels. He mentions that the price of these alloy wheels with low-profile tyres is Rs 1.10 lakh. Next up, he shows the custom audio system, which comprises two 1,500 RMS subwoofers in the boot, three amplifiers, four mids, and two tweeters. The owner highlighted that the cost of this music system is Rs 1.5 lakh.

Are such massive alloy wheels safe?

The standard Volkswagen Virtus comes equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels from the factory. To a lot of people, the stock alloy wheels look fine. However, there are people who like upsizing the alloy wheels to give their cars better aesthetics. Generally, upgrading the size by 1 or 2 inches makes it look better and does not affect its ride quality that much.

However, the problem arises when massive alloy wheels like these 20-inch sets are added to cars. It can be noted that the entire wheel is coming out of the wheel well, and this neither looks good nor helps with the car’s performance. In addition to these issues, there are plenty of others.

Adding such massive wheels reduces the ride quality of the car. They make the ride of the car very harsh, and low-profile tyres, which are necessary when adding such massive alloy wheels, increase the road noise in the cabin. Additionally, larger alloy wheels increase the unsprung weight of the vehicle, which directly causes damage to the engine, brakes, and suspension.

Apart from these issues, adding such alloy wheels to vehicles is also illegal. If police authorities stop such vehicles on the road, they can be immediately seized, as modifying vehicles in India is strictly prohibited. Also, if such vehicles with massive alloy wheels and other modifications get involved in accidents, insurance companies can reject the claims, as these modifications are not part of the standard car. Lastly, the warranties of these vehicles get voided after adding such modifications.
