India and its cities and towns have a major problem with waterlogging. Every year during the monsoon season, roads get filled with water due to poor drainage. As a result of this, a lot of two-wheeler and four-wheeler owners are left stranded as water damages their vehicles. Recently, a video was shared online in which a Tata Harrier owner was seen starting and driving his SUV on a waterlogged road. Although this vehicle started right up and was driving, we want to explain why this should never be done.

Tata Harrier driving on a waterlogged road

The video showing the Harrier owner starting and driving his SUV on a flooded road was shared on Instagram by Corporate.Waala on their page. It starts off with a man opening the door and taking the driver’s seat of a black edition Tata Harrier SUV, which was parked on a waterlogged road.

Following this, we can see the man driving his SUV through the flooded road after it started right away. The video shows that the driver was able to turn his Harrier and continue driving on this road. As a result, a number of Tata Motors fans have shared this video, highlighting the reliability of Tata cars.

Why should you never do this?

We have to break it to everyone, especially to Tata Motors fans, that although in this particular scenario the Harrier starting up might seem impressive at a glance, it has to be mentioned that this stunt was an extremely foolish act. We say this because the owner of this particular vehicle was lucky that his vehicle did not hydrolock.

If anyone else tries to replicate this scenario, most likely the water on the road will enter the engine's combustion chamber through the air intake. It will then corrode and destroy the pistons, connecting rods, and other crucial engine components, which will make the vehicle useless and leave the owner with a hefty repair bill.

The same might have happened with this particular Harrier as well, because there is no follow-up video mentioning that the vehicle is completely undamaged. We would like to mention that if your vehicle is stuck in such a situation, it is best to keep its engine shut and not try to drive around on a flooded road.

Apart from the engine, the wiring harness, engine control unit, transmission control unit, and other electrical components can get severely damaged, increasing the repair bill. So, if you are someone who does not want to suffer from these problems, we request that you not drive your vehicle if the roads are flooded, because it’s just a matter of luck.

There is a common misconception among expensive SUV owners that their vehicle, being a capable 4x4 with high water-wading capacity, can be driven across such flooded roads. Recently, breaking this misconception, a video went viral on the internet in which a ₹4.5 crore Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG was seen stranded after trying to cross a waterlogged underpass in Chandigarh. The video proved that no matter how capable an SUV is, it can still get hydrolocked.
