Woman Beats Up Toll Booth Worker After Fastag Dispute: Video Goes Viral

Not all motorists are happy with the country's toll collection systems. This dissatisfaction often leads to them getting aggressive to the toll booth workers, as seen in several previous cases. In the most recent instance, a woman is seen slapping the toll plaza worker brutally. The CCTV recording from the place shows the severity of this incident.
This happened at the Chhijarsi Toll Plaza in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday (April 13, 2025) morning, at around 8:30 AM. A car with the registration number HR 40 J 6483, coming from Ghaziabad stopped at the plaza. It was a Maruti Wagon R CNG which had four people inside- two men and two women. When scanned, the FASTag showed insufficient balance. As per the rules, the staff asked the passengers to pay the toll fee manually along with a fine.
Instead of cooperating, the male occupants of the vehicle started arguing with the staff. One of the women soon lost her temper. She stepped out, stormed into the booth, and began assaulting the toll operator. CCTV footage clearly shows her repeatedly slapping him, trying to strangle him, and even banging his head against the table.
As shown in the footage, the lady slapped the staff seven times in just four seconds- brutal! The accused is around 30 years old. Later in the video, a man is seen pleading her to stop, with folded hands. The video has gone viral, carried by all major news outlets. The incident has raised serious concerns over the safety of toll booth operators.
Toll plaza staff reported that the two male passengers also misbehaved with the employees. “A simple request to pay the toll turned into a violent attack. The woman barged in and beat up our staff mercilessly. This is unacceptable,” Avnish Singh, an employee at the plaza told the Mint.
The brutal attack has left the staff shaken and has once again highlighted how toll workers are often at the receiving end of public anger.
Police have now identified the vehicle and launched efforts to locate the woman involved. “A case has been filed under BNS sections 115(2) for voluntarily causing hurt and 351 for criminal intimidation,” said SHO Patneesh Yadav of Pilakhua police station. “The vehicle has been traced, and we’re working to locate the accused woman.”
This is not the first violent incident at the Chhijarsi Toll Plaza. In June 2024, a bulldozer driver rammed his vehicle into two toll booths after being asked to pay, nearly running over employees. That video had also gone viral but resulted in no lasting reforms.
Sunday’s assault has reignited public debate around toll plaza safety. Social media users are demanding stricter action against such acts of violence and better protection for toll workers. They deserve a safe work environment. Many are calling for stricter actions and on-site security to prevent such incidents in the future.
The toll plaza where this incident occurred is located on the Agra- Lucknow Expressway. It was completed and inaugurated in November 2016 by the then Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav. Back then, it was the longest greenfield expressway in India. It has four major toll plazas between Delhi and Lucknow- Chhajarsi Toll Plaza, Brijghat Toll Plaza, Joya Toll Plaza, and Niyamatpur Ekrotiya Toll Plaza.
