Billionaire Zoho CEO Owns Tata Nexon EV, 2 Electric Autorickshaws For Commuting [Video]

Billionaire businessmen around the world choose an expensive luxury sedan or SUV to commute. Sridhar Vembu, CEO of Zoho Corporation is a bit different in this case. Instead of buying expensive car that depreciate fast, Mr. Vembu has bought practical and environmental friendly for his use. He uses a Tata Nexon EV and 2 electric autorickshaws to commute.
We’ll first start by talking about the actual car that he owns. He owns a Tata Nexon EV (pre-facelift model). Sridhar Vembu bought the car back in 2022 and he even posted the pictures of his new ride online. He mentioned that he will be using the electric car for local city commutes and he really likes the way the car was handling. He even mentioned that he is proud of owning the made in India electric SUV.
Nexon EV is the best selling electric vehicle from Tata Motors in India. It is powered by a 30.2kWh lithium-ion battery that can deliver a claimed driving range of 312 km on a single charge. The electric motor generates 129 Ps and 245 Nm of peak torque. The electric SUV supports fast charging too.
The next vehicle that Sridhar uses to commute everyday is an autorickshaw. This is also an electric auto from the brand Montra. He took delivery of Montra Electric super auto earlier this year. This electric scooter was launched back in 2022.
The Murugappa Group’s electric auto even won the International Red Dot Design Award for 2023 in the ‘Innovative Last Mile Mobility Electric Passenger Vehicle’ category. An updated version of the electric auto with a longer driving range was launched earlier this year. We feel Sridhar got himself the updated version.
Just like the Nexon EV, Sridhar posted the images of his electric auto online. He mentioned that he uses the autorickshaw for journeys that are under 10 km. Anything above 10 km radius, he uses his Nexon EV.
After buying the auto, he posted that the electric auto is a great and safe upgrade for a scooter or motorcycle. He even mentioned that he likes to think of it as the family scooter. Easy to navigate through tight spaces, easier to park. He is even confident that the e-auto will take off in the consumer market.
In India, only a few states allow you to register a three wheeler as a private vehicle. Most of these vehicles are launched as commercial vehicles and that is what most people use the same for.
Sridhar uses the electric auto for his personal use and local commute. The electric auto is powered by a 10 kW lithium-ion battery pack which has an ARAI certified range of 203 km. Price for Montra electric auto starts at Rs 3.02 lakh, ex-showroom and goes up to Rs 3.50 lakh, ex-showroom.
As mentioned above, he thinks of e-autos as a great alternate and safe upgrade from scooters. This is probably why he has 2 more Mahindra Treo electric autos in his garage. He used to ride the Mahindra Treo to school and also uses it in the farm. Mahindra Treo electric auto uses a 7.37 kWh battery pack that has a claimed driving range of 150 km.
