14 Upcoming Hybrid Cars: Maruti Fronx To All-New Kia Seltos

Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid
The first vehicle on this list is a crossover SUV from Maruti Suzuki, the Fronx Hybrid. This particular SUV will be getting a series hybrid system in which the 1.2-litre Z12E, 3-cylinder petrol engine will act as a generator and charge the battery pack in the vehicle. As for the power to the wheels, it will be provided by electric motors. It is believed that it will be launched sometime next year, in 2026.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor
As the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor is based on the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, it will also be getting the same series hybrid powertrain. Both of these SUVs will also get ADAS Level 2, updated exterior and interior design, and a bunch of new features to make them even more desirable. The Taisor series hybrid will be launched a few months after the Fronx Hybrid.
Hyundai Creta Hybrid
The Hyundai Creta is the undisputed champion of the mid-size SUV segment. To keep its title, the company is planning to offer a strong hybrid powertrain option for the Creta. Hyundai is expected to use a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine coupled with a single electric motor in a strong hybrid setup. The launch might take place around 2027.
Kia Seltos Hybrid
As the Creta and Seltos currently use the same powertrains, they will also share the upcoming strong hybrid powertrain. The Seltos Hybrid will be completely redesigned from the outside as well as the inside. The expected launch timeline of the Seltos Hybrid is around 2027–28.
Mahindra XEV 9E Hybrid
Like the Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid, there are reports that the Mahindra XEV 9E will also be getting a range-extender series hybrid setup. In this, there will be a 1.2-litre petrol engine that will recharge the battery pack to extend the range of the vehicle. No official launch timelines have been revealed so far.
Mahindra BE 6
As the Mahindra XEV 9E and BE 6 use the same Mahindra INGLO platform, the BE 6 will also use the same 1.2-litre petrol engine-powered series hybrid setup. These SUVs are being developed due to the increasing demand for strong hybrid vehicles in India.
Honda Elevate Hybrid
To compete with the upcoming Creta and Seltos Hybrids and the Grand Vitara and Urban Cruiser Hyryder Hybrid, Honda will also be offering the Elevate with a hybrid setup as the City e:HEV. It consists of a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle engine that works along with an electric motor. The engine is mated to an e-CVT gearbox. The launch is expected around the second half of 2026.
Renault Duster Hybrid
Renault will soon be launching the next-generation Duster in India. Initially, it will launch with a turbo petrol and mild-hybrid setup in India. However, there are reports that, down the line, it might get a strong hybrid powertrain as well. It will consist of a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, two electric motors, and a 1.2 kWh battery pack. The launch is expected sometime around late 2026 or early 2027.
Nissan Terrano Hybrid
Next up on this list is the Nissan Terrano Hybrid, which will be based on the Renault Duster. It will also boast the same 1.6-litre petrol strong hybrid setup. The launch will not take place before 2027.
Volkswagen Virtus Hybrid
There are reports that claim Volkswagen and Skoda will offer their cars with a strong hybrid powertrain in India. Of these cars, the first will be the mid-size sedan Virtus. It is expected to get the updated 1.5-litre TSI Evo2 engine with a hybrid setup. Details on this hybrid setup are currently scarce.
Volkswagen Taigun Hybrid
As the Taigun is also based on the same platform as the Virtus, it is also expected to get the same powertrain as the Virtus. Once launched, it will take on the Creta Hybrid, Seltos Hybrid, Grand Vitara Hybrid, and others.
Skoda Slavia
Another product from the Volkswagen Skoda Auto Group to get the hybrid setup will be the Slavia. It will also be getting the same 1.5-litre TSI engine with a hybrid setup.
Skoda Kushaq
The last vehicle on this list is the Skoda Kushaq mid-size SUV. It will also share the same engine and hybrid setup and will take on its cousin Taigun and other prominent SUVs in the market.
