2024 Hyundai Alcazar Facelift: Engine Details And Safety Features Revealed

Hyundai is set to launch the Alcazar facelift in India on September 9, 2024. As the launch date approaches, the company continues to reveal more details about this hotly anticipated SUV. The newest piece of information surrounds the powertrains and safety standards to be expected on the facelift.
Like the model it replaces, the new Alcazar will be available with two engine options, each catering to a different set of drivers. The first option is a 1.5-litre Turbo GDi turbocharged petrol engine, which delivers 160 PS and 253 Nm. This engine is paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). This is the same engine that does duty on the outgoing Creta, Seltos and Carens. It is, in fact, an ideal engine for the Alcazar, considering its size and seating capacity.
The second choice is that of the 1.5L U2 CRDi diesel that produces 116 PS and 250 Nm. This engine and its iterations can be seen on multiple Hyundai and Kia models and have a reputation for being frugal and reliable. The Alcazar will retain the U2 diesel engine, with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options.
Like its predecessor, the new Hyundai Alcazar will be equipped with selectable driving modes- Normal, Eco, and Sport. There will also be three traction modes- Snow, Mud, and Sand. Other powertrain-related tech confirmed on the facelifted SUV are paddle shifters and Idle Stop and Go (ISG).
Safety seems to be a top priority for Hyundai these days, and the Alcazar will be no exception. The SUV will have over 70 safety features, 40 of which would be standard across all variants. It will have Hyundai’s SmartSense Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), with 19 features aimed at enhancing driving safety, convenience, and ease of parking. Some of these are:
Standard safety equipment in the Alcazar includes six airbags, Hill-Start Assist Control, Electronic Stability Control, Vehicle Stability Management, and all four disc brakes. Things such as a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (Highline), Digital Key, Hill Descent Control, front parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and an Electro Chromic inside rearview mirror will also be offered, further enhancing safety and convenience.
As confirmed by previous leaks and official teasers, the new Alcazar will be equipped with a sea of features and equipment. A first for Hyundai, the Alcazar will have an NFC-based digital key function, which will allow users to use their smartphones as the vehicle’s key. It will have support for 3 different users and 7 devices at any given point in time.
The upcoming SUV will have a 10.25-inch HD infotainment touchscreen, seamlessly integrated into a bezel that also houses a digital instrument cluster of the same size. This setup closely resembles the design found in the outgoing Creta. There will also be Dual Zone Automatic Climate Control (DATC) with touch-based controls, a magnetic pad like what we had previously seen on the IONIQ 5 EV, rain-sensing wipers, a voice-enabled panoramic sunroof, wireless chargers for first and second rows, horizontal AC vents, four ventilated seats on the six-seater variants,
The infotainment system will offer a multi-language user interface supporting up to 10 regional and two international languages. There will be an 8-speaker Bose premium audio system, ‘Sounds of Nature’ ambient audio library, etc for the best in-car entertainment experience.
Connectivity will be a strong focus as well, with over 70 Blue Link-based connected car features available. The suite will allow smartwatch and smartphone integration. Additionally, it will support more than 270 embedded voice recognition commands in Hindi, English, and Hinglish.
The front seats will be motorized with 8-way adjustments, and the co-driver seat will have a Boss mode function for added convenience of the second-row occupants. The second row will have adjustable thigh supports on the six-seater guise.
