Finally, after teasing for months, the Japanese carmaker Nissan has officially unveiled the 2024 X-Trail for the Indian market. This new SUV will take the flagship SUV spot in the lineup and will help the company in making a new brand image in the country. Until now, Nissan’s Indian lineup only included the Magnite compact SUV. The new X-Trail will compete in the highly competitive premium SUV segment.

Platform and Dimensions

First off, let’s talk about the India-spec Nissan X-Trail’s platform. This new flagship SUV is based on the CMF-C platform. Dimensionally, the new 2024 X-Trail measures 4,680 mm in length, 1,840 mm in width, and 1,725 mm in height. It also gets a wheelbase of 2,705 mm.

Additionally, the SUV boasts a ground clearance of 210 mm. According to the company, the SUV offers a turning radius of 5.5 m. It was anticipated that the SUV would also get a dedicated 4X4 system, but that is missing from the India-spec variant.

Exterior Design

Coming to the exterior design of the 2024 Nissan X-Trail, the fourth-generation model is now much sharper and more striking. At the front, the SUV features a prominent ‘V-Motion’ grille finished in dark chrome. It also gets a modern-looking split-headlamp setup. It boasts an aggressive front bumper with parking sensors.

Moving to the side, the X-Trail gets conventional door handles, round wheel arches, and faux roof rails. The main highlight on the side profile of the new X-Trail is its 20-inch multispoke diamond-cut alloy wheels.

As for the rear end design, the SUV features an equally modern yet simple design. It gets wraparound LED tail-lamps along with a chunky rear skid plate. It also gets rear parking sensors and a rear wiper washer setup.

Taking a step on the inside, the 2024 Nissan X-Trail offers a spacious and well-laid cabin. Like the previous generation model, this time around as well, Nissan is offering the X-Trail with a three-row seating arrangement. Apart from this, the dashboard is dominated by an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

It also comes equipped with a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display. Other premium features of this flagship SUV include a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, a dual-zone climate control system, a wireless smartphone charger, keyless entry, and push-button start.

Other notable interior features include paddle shifters, a 360-degree camera, and a range of drive modes to suit different driving conditions. It also gets an electronic parking brake with auto-hold function and cruise control.

The second row of seats offers a 40/20/40 split-folding, sliding, and reclining function. Meanwhile, the third row features a 50/50 split-folding and reclining function. This allows for versatile cargo and passenger configurations.

Powertrain

Coming to the powerplant of the India-spec Nissan X-Trail, it comes powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. This engine comes paired with a 12V mild-hybrid system, producing 163 bhp and 300 Nm of torque.

This powertrain comes mated to a shift-by-wire CVT automatic gearbox. Additionally, the SUV comes with a limited-slip differential, enhancing its off-road and handling capabilities.

Pricing and Competition

At the moment, the company has not officially announced the pricing details of the 2024 Nissan X-Trail. However, it is expected to be priced between Rs 40 lakh and Rs 45 lakh. Also, it has been highlighted that this SUV will be brought to the country via the CBU route and will be imported in limited quantities.

Around 2,500 units yearly will be brought in for sale. As for the competition, the new Nissan X-Trail will compete with the mighty Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, MG Gloster, and Jeep Meridian.
