New Mahindra Thar Facelift: Changes And Features Detailed In Video

In early October, Mahindra gave the three-door Thar what could possibly be its first big upgrade since launch. The facelifted Thar starts at Rs 9.99 lakh, ex-showroom, and comes with a bunch of interesting changes. Now, the carmaker has released a video showing the changes and reworked features on the new Thar.
Mahindra has revised the colour palette of the new Thar. The three-door now gets two new colours- Tango Red and Battleship Grey- both borrowed from the five-door ROXX. The pre-facelift Thar, in fact, had a different shade of Red on offer, which has now been replaced with the Tango Red. The video opens by showing this colour in detail. We get detailed looks at the front, rear and side of the SUV.
Another big change on the new Thar is that the front grille now comes finished in body colour. It gels well with the rest of the design. Even the front and rear bumpers get dual-tone finishes. The headlamps continue to be circular Halogen units, without LED DRLs. These can all be seen in the video.
A prominent change at the rear is a rearview camera that sits at the centre of the tailgate-mounted spare-wheel. This is a placement that we first saw on the ROXX. The new SUV gets a rear wiper and washer as well. These are, in fact, standard across the range. Later in the video, we see the ‘Battleship Grey’ colour. This colour looks good on the three-door Thar.
The video then shows the interior of the new SUV. It gets an all-Black theme and sees the addition of features like a larger 10.25-inch HD infotainment touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay, adjustable front armrest, A-pillar-mounted grab handles, rear AC vents, etc.
The one-touch power window controls have moved to the doors. Previously, these were placed on the central tunnel. Improving the overall ergonomics further, the new SUV gets a fuel lid that can be operated from the inside. On the previous model, you had to get out with the key and open it manually. No more hassle!
Let’s start with the colour palette. Six shades are now offered, including the two new ones. The colours on offer are Battleship Grey, Tango Red, Deep Forest, Galaxy Grey, Everest White, and Stealth Black. The feature list also gets the likes of cruise control, electrically adjustable ORVMs, 50:50 split seats at the rear, TFT MID, intuitive HVAX controls, and more.
Mahindra has left the facelifted Thar’s powertrain untouched. It is offered with the same three engine options as before- 1.5L diesel, 2.2L diesel, and 2.0L turbocharged petrol. Both manual and automatic transmissions are available.
The 2.0L turbocharged petrol (mStallion 150 TGDi) produces 150 bhp and 300 Nm. On the automatic variant, the torque sees a jump to 320Nm. The 2.2L mHawk diesel makes 130 bhp and 300 Nm, and the 1.5-litre D117 CRDe diesel engine is capable of making 117 bhp and 300 Nm. This engine comes only with a Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) layout. Both the petrol and the larger diesel engine can be had in 4x4 as well.
An important upgrade on the facelift, which interestingly, is not mentioned in this video, is the inclusion of an Electronic Front Axle Disconnect. This system kicks in automatically when you’re driving on highways and disconnects the drive from the front axle. The vehicle then functions as an RWD. This is claimed to bring significant fuel savings.
