The upcoming Mahindra Thar ROXX promises to be India’s most luxurious off roader, this side of Land Rover Defenders and Mercedes Benz G-Wagens of this world. Mahindra has just put out a new teaser video that showcases the interiors of the 5 door Thar ROXX, and with this, we know quite a bit about the new 4X4 SUV that is all set to launch on the 15th of August, 2024. Let’s take a look at the teaser, shall we?

As is quite evident from the teaser video, the 2024 Mahindra Thar ROXX 5 door 4X4 SUV will get a panoramic sunroof, and from the looks of it, it looks very well integrated. We may even get a metal hard top on the Thar ROXX, and if that happens, it’ll create clear distinction between the 3 door and 5 door models.

The interiors have a beige theme, and this may not be the best choice for an off-roader given how dirty it can get while plugging through mud. However, Mahindra knows that most buyers of the Thar ROXX may not ever venture off the road, and the interiors seem to reflect just that. With that, the Thar ROXX is likely to end up as a lifestyle vehicle that spends most time on city streets and highways rather than off the road.

Moving on, there’s automatic climate control, a music system from Hardon Kardon, a touchscreen infotainment unit and digital instrument cluster, both seemingly borrowed from the Scorpio-N. Art leather seats with perforations point at ventilation function, and a soft touch dashboard with contrast stitching are the other relatively luxurious bits on the Thar ROXX. All in all, this is a 4X4 that will give Indians a taste of a affordable, luxurious go-anywhere vehicle.

As for pricing, we expect the Thar ROXX to rub shoulders with the Mahindra Scorpio-N. Prices could start from under Rs. 13 lakh, especially considering the fact that the Thar ROXX is said to get a rear wheel drive version with the 1.5 liter turbo petrol engine coming off the likes of the 3 door Mahindra Thar, XUV 3XO and Marazzo.

Two more engines are also expected to be shared with the 3 door Thar. The 2 liter turbo petrol and 2.2 liter turbo diesel engines with 6 speed manual and automatic gearbox options are expected to be on offer, with a four wheel drive layout. Both these engines are likely to get a higher state of tune similar to what’s offered on the Mahindra Scorpio-N and XUV700 as the Thar ROXX will be significantly heavier than the 3 door model. Add to the fact that Mahindra is never known to favour fuel efficiency over performance, and the most powerful Thar-ever seems all set for launch.

As for safety, airbags, at least four of them, ABS, ESP, traction control and even a limited slip differential are likely to be part of standard features. A steering that’s adjustable for both rake and reach would be nice to have, and boot is likely to get marginally better than that of the 3 door model. We’ll be at Kochi for the official launch on the 15th of August, to bring you all the action right from the launch floor. Watch this space.
