New Maruti Swift Vs Baleno: Base Trims Compared On Video

With the launch of the 2024 Swift, the prices of the hatchback have gone up by at least Rs. 50,000 depending on the trim. This makes the base LXi trim of the Swift just Rs. 17,000 cheaper than the Sigma trim of the Baleno. In contrast, the Baleno offers much more features, a more spacious cabin, much premium interiors and a better road presence. Today, with the help of a YouTube video uploaded by Sandeep Malik, we will compare both of these hatchbacks in detail.
First, let’s talk about the price. The LXi trim of the Swift is priced at Rs. 6.49 lakh ex-showroom and the top end ZXi Plus AMT costs Rs. 9.6 lakh. Meanwhile, the base trim of the Baleno is priced at Rs. 6.66 lakh and the top end is priced at Rs. 9.83 lakh.
There is a significant difference in terms of engine as well. Both the cars are offered with a single petrol engine only. The Swift is powered by a 1.2-litre three cylinder engine that produces 80 PS of power and 111 Nm of torque.
On the other hand, the Baleno gets a more refined 1.2-litre four cylinder engine that delivers 90 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque. In terms of dimensions, the Baleno is 130 mm longer and 10 mm wider than Swift, and offers 53 litrers more boot space. This means that the Baleno offers a more spacious cabin than the Swift.
Now, let’s talk about the differences in the base trims of both the hatchbacks. At the front, both the cars get single projector based halogen headlamps with no DRLs and fog lamps. The only difference here is that the Swift gets a glossy black grille while the Baleno has a regular rough black grille.
Interesting differences are observed in the side profile as the Baleno rides on 15-inch steel rims while the Swift gets 14-inch steel rims. Both the cars have fender mounted indicators, rough black door handles and rough black ORVMs which is a disappointing part.
The rear profile of both the hatchbacks misses out rear wiper with washer, defogger, shark fin antenna and reverse parking camera. However, LED tail lamps are offered in both. Four reverse parking sensors are offered as standard in both the cars.
Overall, the Swift gets a sportier styling that targets youth while the Baleno has a more premium and wide design language. Now, let’s talk about the interior differences.
The base trim of Baleno gets a 60:40 split which is absent in the Swift. Parcel tray is absent in both the cars. The cabin of both the cars misses out on multiple features such as an infotainment system, steering mounted controls, cruise control, height adjustable driver seat, speakers, tweeters etc.
However, the interior of Baleno feels much more premium with the blue and black combination and soft touch material on door pads. In comparison, the Swift has hard plastic door pads with no soft touch feel.
Both the cars are similarly loaded with central locking, remote lock/unlock, all four power windows, tilt adjustable steering wheel, dual dial instrument cluster with MID, auto up/down driver window and much more. Additional features in the Baleno include auto AC and 12V socket in the 2nd row.
The Swift wins over the Baleno in terms of safety as it comes with 6 airbags as standard. In contrast, the Baleno gets 6 airbags in higher trims only. Rest all the safety features are same in both the cars.
