New Suzuki Swift scores 3 Stars In Euro NCAP [Video]
The all-new 2024 Suzuki Swift was recently crash-tested by Euro NCAP. This time around, the new Swift has managed to secure a three-star safety rating. Prior to this recent Euro NCAP testing, the Swift was crash-tested in Japan, following which it was awarded four stars. Presently, the Swift has not undergone any crash testing in India; however, it could be tested by Bharat NCAP in the near future.
Euro NCAP Crash Test Results
The fourth-generation Suzuki Swift was rigorously tested to assess its safety standards. In the Adult Occupant Protection category, the Swift managed to achieve a score of 26.9 points. This translates to 67%. As for the Child Occupant Protection category, the Swift scores a total of 32.1 points, or 65%.
One of the notable aspects of the European market-spec Swift is its comprehensive list of safety features. The car in Europe comes equipped with dual front airbags, side head airbags for all occupants, and side chest and pelvis airbags for front occupants.
Additionally, the list of safety features of the new Swift also includes seatbelt pre-tensioners, seatbelt load limiters, and Isofix child seat mounts. The international-spec Swift also boasts an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite, which contributed to its overall safety rating.
The ADAS features on the international Swift include Speed Assistance, which scored 2.1 points, Lane Assist System, and fatigue and distraction detection. Apart from these, in the Euro NCAP testing, Occupant Status Monitoring, Lane Support System, and AEB Car-to-Car System scored 0.3 points, 2.5 points, and 6.5 points, respectively.
Differences in Indian Market-Spec Swift
As we all are aware, the Swift fourth generation sold in India differs significantly from its European counterpart. The Indian-spec Swift lacks the ADAS suite found in the European model, and it also does not feature hybrid powertrain technology.
Despite these differences, the Indian Swift comes with a range of safety features. These include six airbags, hill hold assist, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), ABS with EBD, reverse camera parking, and Isofix mounts.
Japanese NCAP Rating
Prior to the Euro NCAP assessment, the Suzuki Swift has also been evaluated by the Japan NCAP. In the Japanese NCAP, the new Swift managed to receive a commendable four-star rating. The Japanese market-spec Swift underwent a series of tests including frontal collisions at 55 km/h and side collisions at speeds of 55 and 64 km/h.
Will Swift be tested by Bharat NCAP?
At the moment, there are no reports that have stated that the new Swift in India will go under Bharat NCAP crash tests. However, it could be tested by the authorities in the coming period. It was reported that Maruti Suzuki has sent the new Baleno, Brezza, and Grand Vitara for crash testing by Bharat NCAP.
However, the results of these vehicles have not been published as of now. Bharat NCAP, for those who may not be aware, is a voluntary program applicable to vehicles in the M1 category. This includes passenger vehicles with a gross weight of up to 3,500 kg and no more than eight seats, excluding the driver’s seat.
All the cars tested in Bharat NCAP are the base variants. The program evaluates vehicles based on three factors, which are adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, and safety assist technologies.
