Honda City Facelift Revealed: Coming To India Next

Honda City has been an iconic model for the Jap in India. It has helped in shaping the brand here. Though the sales have lately been dim, the City still commands respect. The manufacturer has now revealed a facelift to it globally. The 2025 Honda City facelift gets cosmetic upgrades and a bunch of new features. Powertrains remain unchanged. The facelifted sedan will launch in Brazil on November 9, 2024, and could come to India at a later date.

The overall design has been tweaked to give it a better stance and a more imposing look. There is now a greater visual differentiation between the City sedan and hatchback sold in international markets. The facelifted sedan gets a thoroughly revamped front fascia.

It has a refreshed grille design. New horizontal elements have debuted and the Chrome strip has shrunk in size. The rear bumper now gets horizontal reflectors and slight changes can be spotted in the detailing in many areas of the design. The car also comes with new wheels, the size of which varies between 15 and 16 inches, depending on the variant selected. The new design looks fresh and somehow manages to lend a youthful feel to the car. In its dimensions, the City sedan has grown by 25mm in length.

All variants except the base-spec now come with 4 disc brakes. There is an increased focus on safety. 6 airbags too are offered across variants. In the EX trim and above, Honda Sensing- the manufacturer’s own ADAS suite is available. It comes with functions such as low speed follow (LSF), adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, frontal collision mitigation and automatic high beam switching. The EXL and Touring variants feature blind spot monitoring as well.

Substantial reworks have been done to the feature list. An electronic parking brake (EPB) has been added to the EX. EXL and Touring variants of the global spec. It also offers a Brake Hold function. Other new features are a wireless charger and wireless Android Auto/ Apple CarPlay. Interestingly, the new City comes with both Type A and Type C USB ports. The front gets the former while the rear gets the latter.

The touchscreen now gets better graphics and improved UX. It even offers better resolution on the new Car. An improved resolution for the rearview camera is another notable change. A large 7-inch colour TFT instrument cluster is available on higher variants while the lower ones do with a 4.2-inch unit. The top-spec variant even gets dual-zone automatic climate control. Honda also offers MyHonda Connect in select variants.

Both the sedan and hatchback forms of the new City are powered by the same 1.5-litre flex-fuel naturally-aspirated, in-line, four-cylinder engine, as before. And we are talking about the Brazilian spec. It produces 126 hp for both fuels, while the torque varies from 155 Nm with ethanol to 152 Nm with gasoline alone. The transmission on offer is the familiar CVT. The Brazilian Labeling Program (PBE) has recognized this as one of the top-rated powertrains in terms of fuel efficiency and emissions.

The base LX variants of both the sedan and hatchback are priced at R$ 117,500 (Approx. Rs 17 lakh). The top-spec Touring trim starts at R$ 142,400 (Rs 20.70 lakh). The top-spec hatchback has a price of R$ 141,400 (Rs 20.57 lakh).

Though not headed for India, Honda has also unveiled the City hatchback. It gets key visual differentiation from the sedan, like a refreshed grille and front bumper. Other changes are a new rear bumper with a Black lower frame. In dimensions, it is longer by 2mm. Gets new wheels ( 15-16 inches varying between trims). Based on the variant chosen, you could also have dual-tone colourways for these.

India Launch?

While it is unlikely for the hatchback to make it to our shores, Honda India could soon introduce the 2025 City sedan in our market.
