Mahindra Thar 3-Door Facelift Almost Here: Roxx-Inspired Design Coming

Mahindra is preparing to launch an updated Thar 3-door in September 2025. The facelift borrows design and feature upgrades from the Thar Roxx, giving the 3-door a more modern look while keeping its rugged identity. Spy shots reveal exterior tweaks, interior tech upgrades, and new features that bring it closer to its 5-door sibling.
The new Thar 3-door adopts the Roxx’s vertical slat grille, flanked by circular LED projector headlamps with updated internals. A reshaped bumper with sharper fog lamp housings gives it a stronger stance.
At the rear, redesigned LED tail lamps and a revised bumper echo the Roxx’s styling. Fresh 5-spoke alloys are also expected, though multiple wheel designs could be offered.
Inside, the SUV finally gets the 10.25-inch infotainment system from the Roxx along with a fully digital 10.25-inch instrument cluster. Power window switches move to the doors for easier use. The all-black cabin gains new toggle switches, an updated steering wheel, and is likely to include automatic climate control in production models.
The facelift borrows premium features from the Roxx such as ventilated front seats, wireless charging, ambient lighting, and a 360-degree camera. Safety is improved with rear disc brakes and Level 2 ADAS. These upgrades respond to long-standing feedback that the Thar needed more comfort and convenience while keeping its off-road focus intact.
The refreshed 3-door is expected by end-September, timed with peak buying season. Mahindra has already cut prices on the Thar Roxx by up to Rs 1.33 lakh after GST revisions, and similar reductions are likely for the facelift.
The 2.2 liter mHawk turbo diesel and 2.0 liter mFalcon turbo petrol engines will be carried over along with the smaller, 1.5 liter-4 cylinder diesel engine on entry level trims. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be made available with the bigger engines while the smaller diesel will be manual-only.
With more features, fresh styling, and added safety, the Thar 3-door is positioned to appeal both to loyal enthusiasts and buyers comparing it with modern lifestyle SUVs. The Thar doesn't have direct competition. In price terms, the Maruti Jimny is probably its only rival worth mentioning.
The 4X4 SUV was originally launched in 2020, as a 2nd generation model. It made a massive departure from the older Thar in that it shared its platform with the Scorpio-N rather than the Bolero. It was both powerful and refined, and was an instant hit. In fact, the Thar is the first of the many super hits that Mahindra has launched back to back.
The Thar now finds itself with a 'bad-boy' image given the fact that a small, vocal minority who have bought one. have indulged in boorish behaviour and aggressive driving. It'll be interesting to see whether the addition of various refinements will change the image of the Thar 3 door.
