Mercedes Benz had started production of the new E Class at its Chakan factory a few weeks ago. Like its predecessor, the 2025 E Class is also available in the LWB form. India is the only market where Mercedes-Benz offers the E-Class LWB with right-hand drive. This is the second generation E to have this India-spec configuration. The sedan has undergone testing in locations across India, including Pune, Chennai, and Indore, as well as internationally in Germany and Spain- say sources.

Sixth Generation E Class: What’s New In Its Design?

The sixth generation is larger than its predecessor. It is 13 mm taller, 14mm longer and has a 15mm increase in wheelbase. It gets an updated exterior styling with a fresh-looking front end. It draws inspiration from Mercedes EQ models. Key highlights are a large front grille with an oversized 3D logo and gloss Black surrounds, revised front bumper, new flush-style door handles that look like having made an entry from the S Class, stylish 18-inch wheels, new connected tail lamps with tri-arrow pattern and a generous use of Chrome.

The sixth generation E Class also stands special in having placed the spare wheel below the boot floor and in bringing localisation to the side and quarter glasses.a

Interior And Features

The key highlight of the new E-Class continues to be the space at the rear. Courtesy of the increased wheelbase, the vehicle now has generous space at the rear. The rear seats can recline up to 36 degrees (a marginal increase over that of the outgoing car), and come with extendable thigh supports and comfy neck pillows. The rear windows and quarter glass get electrically operated sunblinds. The controls for these are also integrated into the infotainment screen.

Talking about screens, the new E Class gets the iconic Mercedes Superscreen layout with a 14.4-inch central screen and a smaller 12.3-inch unit for the passenger. The instrument cluster is a 12.3-inch screen. The new E Class comes with a 730W, 4D surround sound system by Burmester. It has 17 speakers and four exciters. There is an optional Chauffeur package available, that would further up the comfort and luxury for the rear passengers.

Powertrain Specifications

The range-topping E450 variant now gets a 3.0L six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 381hp and 500Nm. It is claimed to do the 0-100 kph in just 4.5 seconds- performance car territory. The second petrol engine is a 2.0L four-cylinder turbo-petrol unit that sits on the E200. The diesel on the E220d is a 2.0L four-cylinder diesel that churns out 197 hp.

On the new E Class, all three engines are hybridized and come paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. This is able to produce an additional 23hp and 205Nm. The transmission offered is a 9-speed torque converter automatic and the E450 gets AWD as well.

Safety

Safety is of superior importance in the new E-Class. The sedan comes with 8 airbags on higher trims. These variants will feature a front centre airbag in addition to the familiar 7 airbag setup. Also offered is a level 2 ADAS suite and customizable Active Brake Assist ( now standard across variants ). The Steel spring suspension gets selective damping and is now tuned specifically for Indian roads. These are claimed to offer a smoother ride for rear-seat passengers.
