2025 MG Astor: New Ad Gives A Quick Look At The Changes [Video]

When the Astor was first launched in India, MG had high hopes for it. The mid-size SUV, however, failed to live up to the expectations in terms of sales. Even when its all-electric counterpart continued to be in great demand, the Astor never took off the way it should have been, despite having a decent value proposition on offer. JSW MG Motor India has now rolled out an update to the Astor, packaging it better for the average Indian buyer. The 2025 MG Astor gets more features than before, including a bunch of thoughtful additions. The carmaker has now released a new TV commercial (TVC) which gives a quick tour of the revised feature list of the SUV.
The video starts from the question- 'So, what do you want your car to be?' and gives a closer look at the Astor's stunning exterior design. It then makes a swift transition to showing the key features and technology onboard. The ad film shows the vehicle's smartphone-based key functions, ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, and the iSmart 2.0 system. Towards the end of the film, you also get to see the words 'The Blockbuster SUV' on screen- MG's new way of describing the new Astor.
The update has increased this mid-size SUV's appeal. The Shine variant has now made it the only SUV to offer a panoramic sunroof under 12.5 lakh rupees. The new Astor has an ex-showroom starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh.
The latest update brings minimal restyling to the table. It has, however, rejigged the variant-wise feature distribution and has also added new features to the list. The mid-spec Shine variant has now become more appealing than before, as it has had a complete reshuffling of the equipment list. The new 'Astor Shine' trim gets a panoramic sunroof, an upgraded six-speaker audio system, and more safety features including but not limited to six airbags.
Safety on the new Astor has been further reinforced as the SUV now gets 50+ safety tech and features. The key highlight here, is the level 2 ADAS suite which gets features like lane keep assist, adaptive cruise, and autonomous emergency braking.
Liveability enhancements on the new Astor include the addition of ventilated front seats (which would be of great use in India's hot, humid climatic conditions), wireless charging bay, and an Auto-dimming IRVM. The Apple Carplay and Android Auto are now wireless. The gimmicky personal AI assistant continues to be offered on the updated Astor as well.
The new Astor also gets the improved i-Smart 2.0 system which now offers 80+ connected features. It also gets Jio voice recognition. This can be used for accessing real-time cricket updates, weather updates and horoscopes. There are now more number of natural voice commands available. Furthermore, MG has given the new Astor an improved digital key which works based on smartphones and Bluetooth connectivity. There is now an anti-theft functionality offered as well.
At launch, the Astor was available with two engine options- a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.3L turbocharged petrol. The naturally aspirated petrol engine makes 110 hp and is offered with a manual and an automatic transmission. The turbocharged petrol was capable of producing 140 hp and was much fun-to-drive. It came mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox alone.
In February 2025, MG silently axed the turbo-petrol powertrain of the Astor. This engine was offered only on the top-spec Savvy Pro variant, and the discontinuation was part of the 2025 refresh. The move has now left the SUV with just one engine option- the 1.5 NA petrol.
