MG has taken the wraps off the second-generation ZS for the European and Australian markets. Dubbed ZS Hybrid+ for international markets, the new ZS gets major restyling, more equipment, better cabin design and improved powertrains. The facelifted ZS will make it to the Indian market next year, where it will compete with strong players like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

2025 MG Astor: What’s New?

MG sells the ICE version of ZS under the ‘Astor’ name in India. The facelift has undergone a significant exterior redesign, starting with a revamped fascia that comprises a new octagonal grille, sportier bumpers, and redesigned headlamps. The bonnet is slightly longer, and the nose has been flattened. The design seems to have taken inspiration from the MG3 hatchback. Notably, the MG emblem has been repositioned to the top of the front bumper, from the grill-mounted unit on the outgoing model.

At the rear, the facelift gets new tail lamps, a redesigned tailgate, and a new bumper. The registration plate has been moved to the middle of the tailgate. On the outgoing Astor, it sits on the rear bumper. Additionally, the window area is now larger and the wheels now get a new design as well. The SUV also gets clean body lines and smart-looking roof rails. The overall design now suggests a more imposing, upright stance.

Inside the second-generation ZS, the cabin has been significantly upgraded with modern features and a better design. The SUV gets a new 12.3-inch touchscreen, restyled AC vents, redesigned centre console, a 360-degree camera, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, rear privacy glass, leather upholstery, heated front seats, keyless entry, automatic headlamps, a six-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support, heated front seats and steering, and a new steering wheel.

There is an air of premium-ness inside, and most people will like the all-Black colourway. The gear selector has been restyled to look like the controls of a yacht. The centre console also has two large cup holders. There is also a vertically arranged charging pad.

Like the outgoing model, the new Astor facelift will also be equipped with Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), and other safety tech like Active Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and other features.

Powertrains And Launch Plans

Under the hood, the 2025 Astor gets a new strong hybrid powertrain that has a combined output of 192 BHP and 343 Nm. The setup consists of a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine paired with a 100 kW electric motor. The petrol engine alone is capable of producing 101 BHP and 250 Nm. The hybrid part of the powertrain draws its juice from a 1.83 kWh battery pack. The new ZS is claimed to do the 0-100 kph sprint in 8.7 seconds, and has a top speed of 167kph. Mileage is just as impressive, with a 23.55 Kmpl rating on the WLTP. Now, WLTP rating is something that’s actually achievable in the real world, and it’s not like the ARAI rating, which most people can never achieve under normal driving conditions.

With its hybrid powertrain, the new ZS will make for a strong rival to the Grand Vitara and Hyryder. It will also compete with big names like the Creta and Seltos. The new MG ZS starts at £21,995 in the UK, translating to approx ₹24.39 lakh. When launched in India, the new Astor facelift could be priced in the 9.98 – 18.08 lakh range.

While MG Motor India has not yet revealed the exact launch timeline for the next-generation Astor (ZS), it is expected to be one of the eight products in the pipeline, from the manufacturer. MG has aggressive product plans for India and is expected to come up with a new product every six months.
